What's up with the 3 USM players getting shot?

The only thing I know about it is that one of the players was dancing with a gang members girl. A fight then broke out, and they took it outside where the 3 of them proceeded to get shot.

Although you can usually find nice places wherever you go, from what I hear, Hattiesburg isn't one of those. <div>
</div><div>I know I live in highest murder rate per capita, (Lovely, Jackson, MS) but from what I've been told, Hattiesburg is not the greatest place for good, law abiding citizens. </div>

Crime rate has gotten a tad bit higher, but I wouldn't say that it's comparable to Jackson.

There are plenty of nice places in Hattiesburg. This is just a random incident. I've heard that the gang member that shot him if from your beautiful city. Hattiesburg has never had a crime problem and I don't think the recent spike in crime is any different than what is going on in any city around the country. However, I still would not say that Hattiesburg has a "crime problem". It's one of the safest and nicest places to live in Mississippi for sure. H-burg is NOTHING compared to the awfulness contained in our state capitol.

The Oak Grove area is one of the nicest areas in the state. Anywhere out on 98 West is really nice. It's also growing at an unbelievable pace.

1) No, I don't live in Hattiesburg
2) I do spend quite a bit of time there and I travel all over the South
3) I would definitely consider moving there

It is right across the street from the Southern Pines animal Shelter. My daughter-in -law works there and she said that every Monday morning it looks like a tornado blew over a beer truck around that area.
The owner said that on a good Saturday that he could have as many as 1000 people in there at one time. It is like the one in Starkville...restaurant, club and bowling alley all under one roof.
It sounds like a pretty wild place.

The Hattiesburg area's one of the better places to live in the state. I lived in Hattiesburg for some three years when I was in grad school at USM and my mother and stepfather live in the area (okay, Oak Grove area) now.</p>

Having lived in both. Hattiesburg had everything Jackson had minus the traffic and the crime. Have you been by the Hunt club in Starkville on a game weekend? Last time I did there were cops and an ambulance. Just like any other city, you have your good and bad/trashy places. We have more of the first.</p>

The downtown area is filling up with apartments and is a safe area now. All around downtown there are nice historic areas. Most of the city itself is full of modest to wealthy neighborhoods mostly free of crime. I live in one of the more modest areas of the city and none of my neighbors ever have any problems. Again, the guy that shot these football players is rumored to be from Jackson.
