What's your worst road trip experience involving a State game?

Jan. 18, 2005. My 21st birthday in Tuscaloosa. During those years, we would take between 2k-4k fans to Coleman as it was at the height of the Bama State basketball hatred.

I've never been so miserable at an away game in my life. From the "Shane's a F****ot" chant every time Powers got the ball to the , "17 State" chant mocking our "Go State! Go State!" cheer. It was just painful.

Mine was 2015 vs USM in Hattiesburg. I was offered a ride to the game by two of my coworkers. They pick me up at my house on the coast and we drive to Hattiesburg, go to the tailgate and proceed to have a great time. I had a 1 year old at home so my nights out were few and far between and I planned on taking full advantage of my sober ride home and night out. I got separated from my co workers as I had tickets in a different section of the game. We dominated the game and I was at the point of needing to go to bed asap. I go back to the tailgate to meet my co workers and am told they skipped the game, stayed at the tailgate, got hammered and drove back to the coast without me. Well here I am stranded with no one else around that is heading back to the coast and I am very intoxicated. I call the wife and try to explain the situation and she tells me not to worry that she will try to find me a ride. Well she did but it wound up being our preacher and his family. I barely said a word the whole ride home except to their teenage son who thought the whole situation was hilarious. I'm sure the car smelled like Makers Mark and Marlboro's when I got out. My co workers and I had an intense discussion on Monday when I saw them at work. Thankfully my preacher or his family never brought up the state I was in. I did make a significant contribution to the offering plate the next week when I made it back to church.
I know this is not a contest, but if it was, this story would get my vote

'92 Oxford egg bowl. Snowed. Froze our asses off. 4 tries at the 17n goal line. Jesus H Christ.
This one. Buddy and me even took my Dad’s four tickets to try to sell before the game. We couldn’t give them away. We sat in those metal endzone bleachers and froze only to watch us stopped 4 straight times inside the 10.

Both of mine are from 2001. That fall was my last semester of college so I decided to go to as many games as possible (ended up going to 10). We were supposed to be good and as I said - it was my last semester. I was taking 12 hours too so I had some free time.

Florida - we park for $20. Go to a tailgate with my friend's family. Head to the game. Make a decision to leave early in the 2nd quarter and we were going to drive back to the MS Gulf Coast to spend the night with friend's family and go to the casino. Our car was blocked in with no way of getting out. We then proceed to sit in a bar from 2 PM to 1 AM. That was the worst drive home ever.

Auburn - decide to drive home after the game. That was an 8 PM kick. I think I almost killed our group about 3 times falling asleep while driving.

2007 Arkansas in Little Rock almost made the list. That is the worst stadium I've ever been in and games in Little Rock bring out the worst Arkansas fans.
Memphis 2000. One tire melted

Ruston ‘08. And I was the DD after the game. I saw friends of mine hit new lows. The LSU game was the next week. Everyone at the bar post game enjoyed reminding us what was coming. The only enjoyable moment was watching some girl dance at that bar. She moved in ways we still talk about.
Was the post game bar the Long Branch Saloon? That's where we stopped on the way back, to drown our sorrows in beer and titties.

I don’t think so, may have been called the Burro or Donkey. Heck maybe it was the Long Branch Saloon. I’ve worked really hard to forget most of the details of that trip.
You would definitely remember if it was the long branch. It is (or was) a strip bar in the middle of nowhere Louisiana that looks like needs Patrick Swayze to come in and clean it up.

2014 at Bama… game and atmosphere was great but I had some of the most obnoxious hammered Bama fans I’ve ever encountered all around me… parked our car on a street outside the stadium among many other cars. Didn’t see the signs saying no parking. Went back to the street after the game to see every single car gone and towed. Had to call some numbers to find where the car was. Ubered 20 minutes away at like 11pm to find it and had to wait on the guys to get to the impound for 30 minutes to get the car for us then drove back home and got back around 1. Nightmare

2023 at South Carolina. Fun game and fun atmosphere but the stadium being 2 miles from anything was weird. Ubered from our hotel downtown to the stadium and planned to do the same thing to get back but every street within a mile was blocked off for post game traffic and we couldn’t get an Uber to come down. No sidewalks leading back so we followed a massive crowd of people walking back towards downtown for nearly 2 miles on a railroad track rolling my ankle like 5 times.. getting destroyed by mosquitoes and sweating my *** off after a tough loss… the airport experience made it even worse the next morning. Flight supposed to leave at 6:30am. Got there at 5:30. Flight crew didn’t show up til 9:30 saying “hotel shuttle was broken down” as an excuse so everyone missed their connecting flights and we sat in an airport basically all day hungover and annoyed. Awful
Columbia South Carolina traffic might have the worst gameday traffic of any SEC town I have even been too. Them and Baton Rouge

UGA 2017. Those people are the scum of the earth. UGA used to be one of the few other SEC teams I rooted for, but those horrible people have me hating Georgia almost as much as Bama.

12 OM-I can still hear that damn Feed Moncrief song. My brother also almost beat the 17 out of some drunk 40 year old OM fan because his son was mouthing off and the dad was egging him on. So that was a bit of a light hearted moment.
14 Bama-Never crossed my mind riding over there we weren't winning. Absolutely deflating drive back.
16 Bama- 52-3. Enough said
17 UGA- Hell of a trip.......until kickoff.
19 Tennessee-nothing bad about the trip itself but the game was an abomination. Had we just started Shrader we win by 2 TDs. That was when EVERYONE knew the Moorhead era was on it's last legs.
I went to that 19 Tennessee game too. We could’ve really beat them in Neyland Stadium at that retard Moorhead just couldn’t help himself.

Thinking on this some more - the 1998 Cotton Bowl was a pretty big **** burger too. We got stuck in traffic and missed the opening kickoff. Weather was lousy - overcast, foggy, rain and mist off and on through the day. Lousy seats in the upper deck of the old Cotton Bowl stadium and we were surrounded by burnt orange. Directly behind me was one opposing team fan that I will never forget as long as I live. An older (late 60's) loudmouth ******* who literally wore a 10 gallon cowboy hat. Like what Burt Reynolds / Turd Ferguson wore in that SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit. I don't know who this guy was or what his story was, but I am 100% certain that Jackie Sherrill ****** this guy's wife, girlfriend, daughter or mother (maybe all four of them). It is hard for me to imagine any other reason this man could have so much pent-up resentment for a man he likely never met. He had no commentary what so ever about the football game. For almost 4 hours all he did was heckle Jackie Sherrill. Words and phrases that I had never even heard before.

If you’re talking about a road trip, the game in Murfreesboro was pretty bad. Metal bleachers and my fingers were frozen because it was freezing rain.

2014 Orange Bowl-couldn’t believe we paid all that money, had to sit in the upper deck and couldn’t stop the triple option even though we had a month to prepare for it.

2014 ULL regional final- those ULL fans were something and the stadium wasn't prepared for that many people.

2012 gator bowl- just got spanked by Northwestern. Tyler Russell forgot how to play football.

2012 Bama- we all knew better than to think we could have won that game.

2012 egg bowl-as others have said I still have nightmares of Donte Moncrief wide open and that feed Moncrief song.

2021 Memphis-We had no business losing to Memphis. Just a terrible football game to watch.

2016 Super Regional vs Arizona- I know it’s not a road game but this one I still get mad about way too much and think about what could have been. I just sat in my seat in disbelief that we lost. That team should have won a national championship and was the best team we’ve put on the diamond in my lifetime.
