Someone in another thread said something about knowing when he hired the teenager as our WR coach that he wasn't cut out for this job.

For me, it was when he was dancing with the team during the opening kickoff in his skinny jeans and extra medium adidas aeroready shirt. Can you imagine TO or Saban doing that?

So, what was your moment? Not when you suspected it, but the breaking point of actually knowing it.

Jury is still out. He’s got 2 more years from me unless the wheels completely come off.

When he was HIRED! He never did anything to earn the Nebraska job. He is a losing coach who was getting fired by the Panthers.

You don't hire losing coaches who got FIRED! Mike Riley, Bill Callahan, Matt Rhule, Fred Hoiberg all got or were getting fired out of the last gigs.

Nebraska fans have an obsession with hiring "named" coaches and saying how these coaches would be better here than the last gig when they are who we thought they are. Sorry...

I mean, right away.

That is not even about HIM but most coaches are not "the answer", it is really hard to get to the playoffs and win it all.

More than likely, the next guy won't be "the answer" either but I would rather keep trying to get it right instead of sticking with lameness.

All valid but you have to admit that getting fired from the NFL is a little different than getting fired at the same level as we were hiring for? Saban was probably getting fired from the Dolphins when Alabama hired him

When he accepted the job after the first 3 coaches said no. He was the remaining tallest midget. No legit coach will come here if we’re honest. Average is what we’ll get.

When we ended up with the defensive line that we have this year. I just thought, if having quality Defensive tackles isn’t a priority, he either doesn’t know what he’s doing, or he doesn’t have the recruiting ability we need. I don’t think he has good recruiting assistants and it’s going to bury him. Hope Im wrong.

It’s been accumulative for me, but if I had to pick a moment it would be the game against Michigan this year. That game made me realize just how far away we are in the trenches. And that lack of physicality reared its ugly head three more times with blow outs to Minny, PSU, and the Squawks.

Week zero, 2023. His very first game.

He spent the entire week talking about “if you fumble you don’t get the ball” and then handed it to the exact guy he was calling out in the 4th quarter

he fumbled, we lost, and every subsequent week has been the exact same thing

never in the history of nicknames has there been a more accurate moniker than Preacher Rhule, which I coined after that L to Minn.

Same with me.

I'm watching Ohio State vs Michigan (Big Boy Football) with OSU starting to pull away. I mean if you want to know what winning football is, just look at Ohio State.

In the Big-10 it is OSU, Oregon, Indiana, Michigan, maybe USC and everyone else. Other teams will take turns having a good year, but the organization that is Ohio State Football understand what championship football is and what it takes. Very few are going to match them other than the schools I named. We have been set so far back ever since TO stepped down. Those running UNL are clueless.

So yeah, I agree - unless the wheels completely come off, any talk about regime change right now is just futility and stupidity really. No magic wand is coming here to turn this around quickly because unless something changes with those running UNL, we will never build up to match what Ohio State has going on in football.

My moment was yesterday. I just can't believe that in year three we get totally pushed around by Minnesota and Iowa again. I feel like the identity of our program is to assemble the best seven on seven team possible and we're still only average at that.

But Rhule is probably going to be around for a while and I refuse to just bash the program 365 days a year for the next couple years. We already have some drama queens on this board who are taking care of all of that.

When I noticed Rhule making things about himself instead of the program.

As mentioned, the first season and all his bad in game decisions.

When Nebraska paid to not play Tennessee.

When recruiting 30+ total DB’s/WR’s in his first couple of classes instead of DL/OL.

1st season. And again these past two games. Hard to figure how they came somewhat close to pulling off upsets against Michigan and USC and then look like total crap the last two.

Immediately. I've been on this guy the entire time. There's literally nothing about his resume that looked like he deserved this job. We had to pay him a lot to even consider it, he didn't even want to come here. He's a grifter that has skated by his whole career without any real results. I hate what we've become and I've stopped my Christmas donation....every year I sell a bitcoin and give that, but I'm done.

Year 1. He looked exactly like the same dipshit loser we fired.
An absolute joke
Then, hoping for a nice jump in year 2, we pretty much looked exactly the same again
Out coached and played by everyone

And the hire was fine, giving 8 years to a loser and then now an extension is fvcking retarded
Program is a disgrace, they basically are ok being Purdue or Arkansas or Miss St or that level

Satt...I've taken years of **** hating on Rhule and of course nobody will own up to it...I don't care, this is way of the world, politics anything. I have an irreverent streak and tend to distrust authority which makes it easy to hate on buffoons who are given millions for no reason, but a lot of people trust others just because they are hired or rich...as they trust the decision makers. "If somebody is rich they must be smart and deserve it". We continually fall for this myth. Many rich people are manipulative and self-serving, and at worst, psychopathic. They spend all their energy to "be successful". A lot of really smart, good people aren't interested in wealth because they know it is empty and superficial, but you will never hear of these people, only the Albert's, the Dannen's, the Rhule's. These people are seen and heard. They are eventually exposed but by that point are super rich and have enough of a resume to probably dupe more idiots with the " I am rich for a reason".

end of year one. clear lack of dl and ol recruiting and coaching. clear lack of establishing a football identity for our team. by year two there was little if any development just treading water in place with lessoning hope for progress.

Fair enough. But I don’t think supporting him and making excuses for him and settling for him and pretending like he’s the answer 365 days a year is very productive either. There’s probably a healthy balance in there somewhere. But when you know he’s not the answer, it’s really hard to fake like he is. At least it is for me

I see the BIG as 4 levels now..
ucla and such 1st level
NU and such 2nd level
usc, mich and such 3rd level
osu, indiana 1st level

rhule got us from frost 1st level to second level, now the question is can he get us to the 3rd level
the nil needs are glaring, so it should'nt take Watson or Holmes to figure it out
and mix in some motivation

I never liked the hire.. but just wait, he will have you all eating out of the palm of his hands again during the off season.. Matt is 9-3 every year if you look at it from a certain angle.

I was hopeful he could turn this team around, but Minnesota this year did it for me. To get your *** whipped like that by a subpar Minnesota team just shows not only how poorly coached we are but the complete lack of mental and physical toughness. It was appalling. Everything he says is just smoke and mirrors. IMO there is no hope with Rhule at the helm. Gonna have to enjoy other teams for the next few years until his inevitable firing.

He's surrounded by mediocre assistants and the team is just like their coach, they talk a good game but when it gets tough they're exposed as soft, fat and show no desire to compete.
I have tried, and defended. I just can’t.
I just watched YSU up 42-14 at home against Yale and end up losing the game 43-42 because they did not make adjustments.

all too familiar (other than it would be a Fckn miracle if we ever put up 42). No adjustments to the situation. We aren’t good and the coaching isn’t helping us.
Time to reboot.

Need to be like Iowa and have your team be 95% white kids from the upper Midwest. Tough in the cold weather in fact they love it.

Yeah, I was pretty fed up yesterday. But I also know that there are times where coaches can turn it around. Next spring will be just the 2nd off season with both coordinators. Continuity is usually a good thing.
