I keep forgetting that you are autistic. I'm not a believer in Rhule. I'm just saying that sometimes there are turnarounds. I'm not expecting this to be one of them.
Aww now we’re punching down at the less fortunate to prove we’re Indeed Very Smart

All valid but you have to admit that getting fired from the NFL is a little different than getting fired at the same level as we were hiring for? Saban was probably getting fired from the Dolphins when Alabama hired him
Agree that getting fired from the NFL is different but you if you were on the moon, you could still tell there is a big difference between Matt and Saban.

When I saw the staff he put together, I knew he was not going to be a great coach. All but one of his primary assistants had a personal connection to him - either coached under him before or played for him.

Great coaches hire the best assistants they can find. All the others hire their friends.

I never liked the hire.. but just wait, he will have you all eating out of the palm of his hands again during the off season.. Matt is 9-3 every year if you look at it from a certain angle.
I remember those conversations

I didn't like the hire but decided to give him a chance but had to talk myself into it and do some gymnastics in my head.

Stop hiring.500 retreads and expecting different results.

If we're going to waste money then do it on a proven winner or go cheap and keep hiring assistant coaches until we finally hit on the right one

This has been a problem with Nebraska head coaches for a long time.

Wasn't thrilled with the hire to begin with and his choices of assistants have been crap

The problem is, if he fires some of them this year, he's just going to hire guys who will run the offense and defense he wants so it'll just be the same old shite.

Be better off th start over but that's not happening unless some big-time boosters demand it

His buyout would be $71 million. He's not getting fired.

His first game against MN. First of all we couldn't score from the 1 due to a procedure penalty and ended up throwing a pick in the EZ. How about running twice and kicking the FG? The game was sloppy as hell with penalties at key times and four turnovers. But after all that Nebraska could have won if they stuck with the run, which was working well, but Rhule let Satt call pass plays which stalled a drive and stopped the clock. The excuse after the game was "the pass plays were there, we just didn't execute". I left their stadium thinking we are paying this guy how much?

Minnesota this season.

Wanted to believe that the PSU and Iowa beatdowns weren't coming.

I also want to believe we don't fall completely off the cliff this off season.

But I'm not certain where an entire OL, OL coach, DC, and two DL competent to compete in the BIG materialize from.
^^^My sentiments exactly ^^^

Need to be like Iowa and have your team be 95% white kids from the upper Midwest. Tough in the cold weather in fact they love it.
Your post got me curious. While I don’t think the color of a player’s skin determines how good they are…I just looked at the roster pictures of both Iowa and Nebraska. Iowa’s roster is 35% black and 65% white, while Nebraska’s is 50/50 black and white. However, you may have a point on where a player is from, i.e., what type of weather they are used to playing in…a kid from California may not like playing in cold weather. Although, if they have aspirations of playing in the NFL they better get used to playing in all climates. I know Iowa’s staff likes to recruit kids that are multi-sport athletes in high school and team leaders/captains.

A year from now, we get to see what nobody has witnessed - how Matt Rhule performs past year four. He’s only coached at Temple in a fourth year, nowhere else. He has never built and sustained a program, just improved and got out of dodge. Exciting times lie ahead…

It should be grounds to fire the AD. Seriously. That’s just an outrageous amount. I think the LSU AD was forced to step down for this very reason.

I’d be okay with the AD’s boss being fired, too.
I’m not defending Dannen but I think there’s more players in that decision than just him. The boosters of substance are also to blame for NU’s administrative blunders.

When he was HIRED! He never did anything to earn the Nebraska job. He is a losing coach who was getting fired by the Panthers.

You don't hire losing coaches who got FIRED! Mike Riley, Bill Callahan, Matt Rhule, Fred Hoiberg all got or were getting fired out of the last gigs.

Nebraska fans have an obsession with hiring "named" coaches and saying how these coaches would be better here than the last gig when they are who we thought they are. Sorry...
Getting fired is part of the job indirectly or directly.

If this is true, someone needs to be fired. Holy **** that’s dumber than A&M with Jimbo. I thought that was the dumbest contract in the history of college football but at least he’d won a national championship.

NU leadership is breathtaking in how they get everything that matters wrong and have for decades now.

It seems as if everyone playing for Iowa yesterday especially the ones making big plays were the type of kid I described. Iowa along with Wisconsin brings in kids from the region that are proud and tough and play with something to prove. Not many like that come through Nebraska’s program anymore.
You are correct the color of skin doesn’t determine how good they are, but the culture they grew up in that shapes their toughness and grit and effort does make the difference in how they show up to play. Like many other issues Nebraska has for years tried to be like almost everyone else. Iowa knows who they are and what they are successful with even if it’s different than the majority of programs.
You are also correct on the NFL aspirations they better get used to all climates because if it’s Buffalo or New England that calls that will be their life in cold weather.

The coaches we were rumored to be talking with along with Rhule.....5-7 Kansas coach ...5-7 Baylor's coach ...and 6-6 Kansas State coach ....no matter what, we would have ended up 7-5 or worse no matter who we hired....we were drawing from a bag of mid level coaches
