a long time since a Mullen coached MSU team has won a big game. Also, I remember his record at MSU against top 25 teams being flashed up on the TV during either the Bama or A&M game. I was shocked to see how abysmal it was. Not griping...just would be nice to win a big game against a good team.

When was the last time we beat a top 20 team...I believe the two games Mullen has won were both ranked in the 20-25 area.

Yeah I know... it seems like we've been so close numerous times under Mullen. But at the same time, whens the last time we lost to a bad team? We've made the step up to winning the games we are supposed to, but whether or not we can make that next step up to beating top tier teams remains to be seen. It may take a little bit to build our talent.
Yeah, but it's not like Mullen has lost to teams barely ranked in the Top 25 either. His record vs ranked teams is really vs Top 5-15 teams.
Preseason 2012, I wanted to see how State would do against the three SEC 'middlin' teams on our schedule: Auburn, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. Well, Auburn and Tennessee haven't won an SEC game between them, and A&M is a Top 10 team, so we STILL haven't faced a 'middlin' SEC team.
About the only 'middlin' SEC teams we have played the last three ('12, '11, '10) seasons are @Auburn 2011 (lost by 4"), @Florida 2010 (won), and maybe Georgia 2010 (won). The rest of the SEC teams we have faced have either been bad or Top 15.

Let me put a different spin on this...
when was the last time we didn't beat a team we were supposed to beat? Too many times over the years we lost to teams we were absolutely supposed to beat. I like beating teams we should. It is just a matter of time before we get some really huge wins.

I agree. We are 24-2 with Mullen against teams we were favored to beat. Houston in '09 (-2) and AT Auburn last year (-6) were the losses and it's not like we were THAT much better than those teams. I mean, Keenum was only the most prolific QB in college football history and Auburn was two games removed from winning the National Championship.

it totally makes my point. Getting to the upper echelon of the SEC is not an easy task and if one is going to make it there is no question that it is a process that takes a few years. If one is lucky he might land a "Johnny" football and move quicker. Keep it up Mullen; we will get there with patience and slow but sure progress.

Mullens has NOT BEATEN TOP 20 TEAM.......
He is all talk when it comes to Big Games, I fully expect us to lose out this year and finish 7-5.
