When I first started on this message board, it was great reading the comments/opinions/views of all the Swain posters. They would get everyone fired up and we're confident of victory in every game. This year and last, SwainDad40 carries the torch for their entire school. What the heck?!?!

Does anyone know what happened last night against Hayesville? I know Hayesville doesn't even have a running back atm
I’m sure they played their JV’s just to give Hayesville a chance...LOL
The yellow jackets showed up to play that's what happened. The Marion machine was not physical at all.

And for the record, I miss my old friends KevinfromSwain, Diablo, uraliar and many more Maroondevil folk who used to post on here, and told it like it was which is what everyone should do...
Fair Weather Fans maybe, or maybe people lose interest in football. Swain..Elkin..Starmount are all programs with good history..but once a chink in the perennial armor shows...there goes the fans..They'll come back once you guys are a conference threat again.
Swain won conference last year. Swain fan base has been dropping for 5 or 6 years.
They did share the conference title. It just seemed as if all the talk was about Murphy and Cherokee last year. This year's talk is all about Murphy with Robbinsville sprinkled in here or there.
The most lowkey conference title that I can remember and for good reason. There win against Murphy last year was one of the biggest flukes in recent SMC history. But they always play out of there minds against Murphy, especially in Bryson City.

Im sure swain will be a factor. After friday night i cant say i think they will win it or share it but they could still ruin someone elses chances. Im not convinced they are slipping just yet.
Don’t count Swain out of anything just yet. Even if we don’t win conference this season we can still make some noise. We are still undefeated in conference and have a shot. Robbinsville has to play Swain at Swain. Two tough road games vs Cherokee and Murphy. As for Rosman and Andrews I still feel we are better and should be favored over them both.
As for the Murphy game last season that was not a fluke. We got the running game going that game and kept Murphy off the field. One bad play by Murphy was not the difference.
As for the fans I believe they will come out if the team gives them something to cheer about. I’m not just saying the players but the coaches as well. If we are a championship caliber team over the next three seasons then it will show with the fan base.

Weakest crowd I have seen in a long time. More interested in what is on Facebook rather than the game. Only people I witnessed into the game were a few students and parents and staff. Swain County needs to step it up now and show that they support this team. Show the players the pride that comes with playing for this County and the Heritage that come with it. The tradition needs to be restored!!!! Maybe some people will get mad when they read this but this team needs more support from the community.
I've always said a very rowdy home crowd is at least a 7-10 pt advantage to the home team.
hayesville has learned how to adapt to no run game and throw the ball very well we had no choice with every running back out. we learned we could play ball without them so it was a win in our book. plus we have two great quarterbacks who know football.
I'd pump the brakes on that jacket mojo just a bit. Smokey hung 50 on Swain. Franklin beat Swain, the same Franklin team that Murphy dominated and destroyed. Swain almost lost to your Hayesville team at home that is decimated with injuries. It is what it is at this point. I didnt believe it at the beginning of the season but Swain is a 4th or 5th place team at best.
Hayesville only completed 14 passes for 152 yards and all but one was less than ten yard throws. Not counting runs after catch. Majority were 2-4yd quick passes because Swain corners were seven yards off the ball the entire game. Swain just did not adjust to it. Hayesville kept swain offense off the field because they converted several fourth downs mostly from either quick throws or qb runs. No way Swain finishes fourth or fifth in conference. We have a shot vs Cherokee, Robbinsville and Murphy. Andrews or Rosman will not be a problem.
Swaindad I'm one of the few on here that gave Swain credit at the beginning of the season. What has swain done to make you think they can finish better than fourth? Rosmans strength is passing. I think they've got a chance against the devil's
Rosman game is homecoming and our boys will be ready. Not to mention I think our boys should have more experience in pass defense and they are getting better. I think the quick answer is that I don’t believe Rosman will be able to stop our running game and we can keep them off the field. As for Murphy, Cherokee and Robbinsville I think we can win one of the three. Maybe even two if we beat Cherokee this week. Not saying we will or not. It depends on which swain team shows up this Friday night. I hope we play like we did vs Murphy last season vs Robbinsville at home later this season.
Imo the best WR in the conference is playing QB at Murphy and doing a great job where he's needed this year. Id put him up against any WR in the conference though.

Swain does have a inexperienced team, but they do have a premier running back. I don't believe any of the current seniors or juniors seen any playing time last year with the exception of one or two kids. But that is not the kids fault, as swaindad40 stated in a early post the secondary is lacking. Two or three kids, didn't play last year and we don't have a FS but you have to play with what you have. I'm sure Friday's game will be a great game in the rain. If the machine doesn't try anything different then result will be the same as last year.
A little bitter are we ? Just come out with it and say it. You hope Rosman beats Robbinsville. Dont beat around the bush you’ll feel better. Just giving you a hard time ! I do appreciate your posts they’re really the only ones we get from the university of Rodo

Back to the original topic, “where are the maroon devil fans” can be addressed with three major points. 1) Swain football is currently in a lull, not much post season hopes = not overwhelming support from the fan base. 2) other activities, like many other schools, the list of options for students and fans to pay attention to continues to grow, football is no longer the dominating experience that it was several years ago. 3) this website. NCpreps has changed, it is not near as useful, informative, and user friendly as it was just a few years ago. Far less incentive for me or others to visit this site. I’d love to be there, 250 meters west of ravensford this evening, to see the county championship game, but I can’t. Anyone know of any coverage? Radio? Live stream?
Still around myself, but I've been traveling a lot this year and will probably miss over half the games due to it. I've only seen 2 games so far this year, but I can tell not much from the fanbase that does show up like somebody mentioned earlier their nose is stuck in their phones.
Congratulations to the Swain fans tonight. That’s the best Swain crowd this team has had in two seasons. Way to show your support and please continue to do so. Maroon machine is still alive!
Just speaking for myself, I'm out of state and not in close contact with the program, so I don't have a lot to add that isn't just hot air. I still read the boards some, but don't post a lot.
Social media and smartphones are going to kill HS football crowds, along with many other good things, I'm afraid. This is no longer the world we grew up in, gentlemen. The SMC will be among the last to go, but it's already happening. More people might watch the Devils' broadcast on the internet than ever saw a game at the stadium, but they aren't there hollering for the team, so it's a good thing and a bad thing at the same time, I guess. (edit: and here I am on the Internet, complaining about it. Go figure.)
