And frankly Selmon’s performance over the last year compared to before has been night and day. Lebby doing better helps, but the baseball hire was huge. Gameday ops sound better than anything in years past. He got the lights. Communication and media have improved. Good year for him
Make the interlocking MSU permanent and he’s I the hall of fame.

Where do you stand on Lebby as of today?

I'd give him 5 years just for the sake of stability. I think he can get us 6-7 wins a year while building up the talent level and keep it in Starkvegas a year or three.

I think he's definitely improved and should get another year. Keeping Hutzler was my biggest gripe coming in. Hiring Rhoads and MacIntyre looks to have fixed that. His record the rest of the season is going to be dependant on injuries. We need depth badly. Reese going out killed the ability to run the ball and that with the defense being worn out was the difference in the final score. I hate the NIL but who and how many he can get each year is going to make or break him.

Probably the smartest statement of the thread here. I didn't like the Selmon or the Lebby hire. I didn't think there was a plan for anything, except try and raise as much money as possible and just 'keep up'. That works for MSU baseball but not so much for football. I think our baseline level of giving was going to increase anyway once our fanbase finally internalized NIL. I don't really think it mattered who the AD was.

But we're here now. Assuming competence, which is where we are, roll with it. No more 2-10 or 3-9 though. And I even give Selmon a pass because now that he quit job hopping, he figured out that if he wanted to go to Oklahoma, he better get his shlt together and make something happen.

His 2026 class is ranked #44 right now. If we're going to have to give him 4-5 years to start recruiting, we've hired the wrong coach. And really, all we have is your word that he's even a good recruiter to begin with. Because all objective evidence we've seen so far says he's average at best.
in this day and age i don't really care what his high school class looks like.

If we conistently improve talent year over year, then he should get at minimum a B+ for recruiting. Right now he's 1-0 with doing that. No i'm not grading him on year 1.

Even more surprising, 2 people voted we should go ahead and move on from him. Hell, even I'm willing to give him a chance based on what I've seen so far this year.
Looks like 3 now. Figured that was goat, 85 and you!! Kidding a little.

Still undecided. Can't recall the last SEC coach to start his career at 0-16 in conference play and still keep his job unless maybe at a Vandy.

Reality: he definitely keeps his job at 5-7(1-7) but think about that. 1-15 in first 2 years can only get a little worse. You can not throw away last year. He should have found a way to win a couple more games and he didn't.

This past Saturday was 1 of maybe 3 chances to get an SEC win and I think he showed a coaching weakness by nor going heavy run with 1:55 to go in regulation and not going to 11 vs 11 from the 6 yard line with 4 chances to score in overtime. I was on the 25 yard line and nearly everyone around me thought it was KT time.

Based on Saturday's game, if he can get the players out of the portal consistently, he could be better than Mullen.
I don’t know about that. Maybe if he doesn’t spent November hunting for his next job. But he has definitely done a good job of getting the players to play hard & with some confidence.

It is really early to have this long thread about the coach.

He might be the best coach we've ever had. He might be the worst. It's just too soon to make such a drastic decision.

All of that is true.
It’s just interesting to gauge the temperature of the fanbase. A sort of approval poll, if you will. And 78% net approval is unbelievable.

i was the first vote because i thought this was a stupid poll and felt like skewing the results since the answer is obvious. i hope the other 4 folks aren't actually serious lmao. we've competed with two playoff teams in y2. we look like a football team again. we play with pride.

I am very optimistic considering we went 2-10 last year. I feel confident our conference losing streak will end this year.

I'm not sure many SEC coaches have walked in to what he did. Program was in shambles after the death of Leach and a year with Arnett, any SEC talent had left with the transfer portal, and a top 5 strength of schedule his first two years. Last year we played 4 of the 12 playoff teams.

Doesn't matter. You don't don't lose your first 16 conference games and keep your job. If you do, your administration isnt serious about football. I'm not sure they are anyway since they never go and hire a successful sitting head coach unless he is in his retirement tour.

It may appear that they are grasping at straws. I want to improve as well, but I am afraid that at this point, I may seem to am jumping on board too quickly... if I say yes. I would rather wait till the end of the season to vote.

He needs some wins in recruiting and conference games and he may be well on his way. A bowl this year would be a great start. This weekend will tell a lot about him on the road if this program bounces back from a heartbreaking OT loss to a ranked team.

I also think he's going to win some games where we are underdogs, unlike Dan... like, the fake punt was a ballsy call. His confidence in the offense to score seems to be contagious, and he's not scared to call plays to win games. All of this so far is better than Mullen, who never could quite pull off a fake punt, and who's asss would absolutely grip up tight in any close games against superior talented teams.

Based on what I have seen this year, I would be shocked if he didn't find at least one win against Arkansas, Florida, or Mississippi. I do think the situation he walked in to matters. Firing Lebby after year two, given these circumstances, would do way more damage than you realize.

There is no scenario where we fire Lebby for results this year. None. That went out the door with the 4-0 start.

Also I agree that it feels unlikely in the moment that we go 0-8 in league play again, unless injuries just totally derail us even further.

I will sign up for completely wrong about our coaches ability to coach. I do consider bringing in some former head coaches as consultants and listening to them to be coaching. Perhaps I put too much weight on those hires, but the difference between the ineptitude displayed last year and what we have seen this year is night and day.
