Where are you with Lebby if we finish 4-8?

For context, here's the Warren Nolan prediction FWIW.

Caveats

1. I don't want to be 4-8 and hope he finds at least one more win.
2. While all 4-8 records are the same in the history books, they don't all feel equal in the moment. Eight blowouts would be bad but I suspect many of us would be numb after a while. Two blowouts, two games where we keep it semi-respectable, and four games that are close losses is maybe more painful but at least shows signs of progress.

So the question...if we finish 4-8, are you in or out on Lebby? Chances are he's back regardless, but would your enthusiasm for next season be impacted? How much difference would even 5-7 make for you?

It really depends on whether we look better at the end of the season. I have adopted the same rule that I had when the hunchback was our coach... If we have improved by the end of the season, I will be happy.

Well, you can say that with such false bravado because there's no way to ever prove it. Especially with him out for the year. I don't feel that strongly either way, but I feel pretty strongly that it's dumb to take a definitive stance (either way) on something so unprovable. All I know is that he was our best DL on the team and we would be a lot better on the DL with him than we are without him. I'll leave it there.
I’m not taking a definitive stance.

I responded to someone taking a definitive stance.

I think Whitson was really good
I wish we were able to see him all year
BUT it’s hard to claim he’d make the difference in an SEC win

not saying he wouldn’t but definitely not saying he would

Today I would say Lebby is improving the program and to stay the course. But.... how 4-8 feels today vs how 4-8 will feel with 8 straight losses remains to be determined.

My guess, they will be much gnash of teeth and Lebby would be on a blazing hot seat after 8 straight losses.

It would be tough to stomach 8 straight losses (16 straight SEC losses for Lebby, 20 straight as a program and 1-23 since Mike Leach).
That said, we’ve already exceeded expectations this year. Assuming we don’t just lay down and die in every remaining game, he’s safe for 2026.
I fully expect to win at least one more. I like our chances to win 6.

If he was to beat Ole Miss, that blazing hot seat immediately gets extinguished. And likely turns into an ice plunge, because, you know, that's all our fanbase can see. Matter of fact, I expect this. We probably SHOULD get one more win, but in true MSU form, we'll go 5-7.

Then 3-9 next year.

It seems like 4-8 with an AZ State loss and an Arkansas win would have given people more optimism than 4-8 (0-8) even though the ASU win would be the better win of the two. I get it, 0-8 in the conference or 0-16 if you prefer, is hard to stomach. Again, just win another one somewhere along the way and be 5-7 and then I think nearly everyone is looking forward to 2026.

Some of the college football predictor accounts have too much 2024 bias still left in their models.

Or, we've played 3 terrible teams and 1 solid one who is probably not nearly as good as the polls at the time we played them would have you believe.

The main one I look at (Massey) says we are 32nd best in FBS. That's probably not too far off right now and is significantly better than last year.

The problem is we have 6 games ahead of us against teams that are clearly better than us (even improved us) and the other two are road games.

Weak sauce from a weak person. Nobody's praying we go 4-8. I go to all home games, many road games, and give at least 5x what you do to MSU, the BC, and the SEF. I'm not a "fan." I've got more Mississippi State DNA in my little finger than you do in your entire body. So, you can take this weak **** over to the other boards where you'll get some positive affirmation for it from other weak minded idiots.
You’re upset because you’re wrong

Not to break up the cat fight between @Drebin & @retire the banner, but I think it's quite possible that we are more than 2-3 wins improved as a team but the record doesn't bear that out because of how hard the schedule is. So it would be a huge let down to go 4-8 but it wouldn't necessarily mean we aren't going in the right direction.
This is fair. For the record, my stance isn’t that we’re going to win the rest of our games, I’d probably put our O/U win total for the rest of the season at 1.5.

My issue is with @Drebin and how he spent the entire offseason shtting on our program and saying “he knows” we will be terrible. And now he’s upset and trying to flex his fandom because he got called out about it

I believe we take the egg bowl this year. OM can't stop the run at all. And we can bruise them with our running game and eat clock. If our DL can continue to make improvements, our CBs are more than capable of limiting their passing. On paper, we should beat Arkansas, but Green may be the difference for them. It'll be close. Their D can't stop anything and Petrino may be trying to sabotage Pittman to get himself another chance. We can beat Missouri. They struggled with a bad USCe team. Florida will have given up. 8-4 is totally not out of the question. Neither is 4-8, though. Warren Nolan has us scoring 17 five times. Interesting

Whitsons best offer out of high school was coastal carolina

he wasn’t highly sought after in the portal

but you’re right, after 1.5 games you clearly know more than every other coach in college football.
I'm not saying i agree that Whitson was gonna be amazing...... but i will bring the name Trinidad Chambliss into the conversation.

That guy wasn't highly recruited by every other coach in College Football and hes proving to be pretty ******* fantastic.

now back on topic..... Id be fine with 4-8 as long as we are competitive in all the games. Id be happy af if we hit 6-6. There is surely two more wins in there.

You actually bring up a good point

if chambliss goes down this week in practice and ole miss goes 8-4 and they use the excuse that chambliss was a difference make id laugh at them and much of this board would.

Now if they beat lsu or Georgia and he plays well in both games? Then maybe I can agree but not after 2 games against BS competition

A QB is a significantly more important player in college than a single DL.

Couple of top notch linemen on both sides and we are in good shape. We need to do a better job getting Rbs to the ground on first contact. We do that and we are in Great shape!
