Where does our backfield rank in the SEC this year?

Maybe Germans, but Lindy's has us ranked next to last with Kentucky being dead last. Vandy is two spots ahead at #11. I gave us more credit than that but I realize Shumpert is still unproven and Griffin hasn't necessarily set the world on fire after his knee injury. I think with more carries either one could have break out seasons backing up JROB.

That's the most insane piece of **** I've heard since this morning when I was told LSU's Fournette was one of the best overall players in the country, despite never playing collegiate football.

I think people see the numbers we put up in 2012 and the numbers put up in 2013 and think LDP was bad... When in fact he was a decent SEC TB used incorrectly in place of some guys who deserved more carries. So I could see where the uneducated eye would put us low, but #13? I think the combo of Williams, Shump, and JRob with Dak could easily lead the conference in rushing.

That's ludicrous. Where was Ole Miss? They do realize we have a probable 1000 yard rusher under center right.

That's probably the idea. I wouldn't count that as backfield.

But we do have 2 4* former high school All-Americans on the depth chart, and JRob proved not to be chopped liver. Meanwhile, most people wouldn't be able to name a single Ole Miss RB.

If they did it as simply production by RB's then I could possibly see the logic. The RB's will not get a ton of yards this year. Dak should get to 1000, hell Jameon will probably get 200.

LDP was the first case I can remember of a RB playing in the wrong system at MSU

previously we have had QB's that were running the wrong offense, but not RB's. Anyway, the rest of the rankings breaks down like this:

QB #3
WR #9
OL #12
DL #1
LB #8
DB #3
ST #14

Ole Miss finished ahead in every category except OL and DL (of course). So if the games are won and lost in the trenches and these rankings play out the rest may take care of itself. Then again I could see us shanking a couple of critical field goals that could determine the outcome of the Egg Bowl so I hope Mullen's new ST coach can have us at least finish in the middle of the SEC in FG%.

How is it we've had some of the best punt and kickoff coverage in the country under Mullen yet we can still deserve a #14 ranking? HOW HARD IS IT TO FIND A KICKER! ARG!

Those rankings are absolute garbage. Our OL at #12? Phil Steele had us at #2 (based on starts) which is probably more correct than the #12 ranking.

If our linebackers are our weakest link, heaven help the offenses we face.....

I can see us starting out ranked that low due to some unknowns. BUT - We will not finish that low. By the end of the season, we'll be viewed as somewhere around the middle of the pack. The 4-8 range.

I think that's perfectly reasonable.

If I had watched what we did with Perkins last year, and seen that we had backs behind him that were not true freshmen, I would have assumed that the backs behind him were not that good, and there wouldn't be a reason to expect a huge jump that would make them better than Perkins. Had Shump gotten more carries, maybe you say a true freshman that is a decent #2 will likely be pretty good as a true sophomore, but anybody not a die hard state fan (and not an arkansas fan) doesn't have much reason to think we have good options behind Perk.

Knowing how little even the media people focused on college football know about it, I'm not surprised at all that they have us that low.
