This team has NO EMOTIONAL LEADERS. Not the players, and definitely not the coaches.
I want a defensive coach who runs around the sideline, gets fired up, and DOES WORK WHILE THE OFFENSE IS ON THE FIELD. When we went down 14-7 to Ark, I watched Wilson and the defensive coaches on the sideline. The players sat there, looking at the whiteboard, and the coaches simply watched the offense on the field. No coaching, no encouragement, no ***-chewing, after we got walked on for 2 TDs. Now, I'll give you that they didn't give up another point (part of that was due to turnovers and a team that quit), but that's just one example of this season. And here's my biggest problem - IF OUR PROBLEM IS EXECUTION, AS COACH WILSON SAYS, then WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO TO SIT ON YOUR *** AT POINTS LIKE THAT? Light into someone on the sideline. Everyone always loves that even when Bama is up by 40, Nick Saban is just waiting to chew someone's *** if they miss an assignment. Defenses thrive on emotion. Where is our fire? Where is our emotion? There simply is none.
I want a head coach who realizes that when he talks trash for a number of years about never losing to a certain team, HE SHOWS THAT EMOTION ON THE FIELD when the going gets tough against said team. If you preach "relentless effort" during the year and in the locker room, PREACH IT DURING THE GAME. Do something to inspire your players. Do something to inspire your assistant coaches. Or chew their *** when stuff doesn't work - JUST DO SOMETHING.
You can't really predict which players will be your emotional leaders. But we don't really seem to have any this year. Sure, we have players who look to others after busted plays on defense and ask "why weren't you doing your job?", but that's not what I'm talking about. We didn't really have any last year either. I think some of that comes from the top (the coaches), but we definitely need to find some for next year.
