When the NFL gets depleted of good talented players because no one is coming out early for a Rookie Contract and they changed that crazy move. *******

In all serious there are a lot of rich dumbasses in Texas, and it may not end.

They have a salary cap like everyone else. TT just tied up like 8% of their football revenue sharing budget on one player.

To be fair, they’ve already front loaded a significant number of NIL deals for the 2025 season prior to July 1.

They're spending alot of money to be the 3rd or 4th best team in Texas.

If they would create a rule that multi year contracts are binding on both sides, most of the problems we all have with the portal would go away.
He probably has a buyout clauses. And the buyout would count against the new school's spending cap, so TT may have assured he won't transfer.

But, the third party NIL deals are still the wild card. If a new school could come up with enough third party money to make a transfer worthwhile, they could get away with not paying much from their revenue share besides the buyout.

Still, he better be one Hell of an OT for that kind of cap hit.

Do these guy still get free tuition, room, & board?
Yes, and now that every player will be on scholarship the budget hits are pretty big even without the revenue share.

I assume the Athletic Department still pays tuition to the school...I guess schools could agree to just waive tuition, so I dont know. But every athlete now gets tuition, free or assisted housing, meals, coaching, training, medical, and the Alston award cost of attendance stipend. That's a significant budget expense for every athlete before you even start discussing "revenue sharing"

Part of the rev share? That's gross. Collective bargaining has to get here at some point in the not distant future. This guy is thrilled but there are hundreds that are not. If the universities intend to continue the existing slate of sports (maybe they don't?), actions like this won't be sustainable. The bread and butter depth players and the smaller sports will just sit out.
