I know there was a thread about this earlier, just wondering anyone's input as to hotels to stay in Atlanta? Also, location. I have heard midtown is a great area and also downtown is convenient. Any input is appreciated.

cancelled a room at the Sheraton in downtown (probably 2 miles from the dome) a few hours ago. It was $260 a night before taxes and stuff. I booked a room at the Ga Tech Hotel and Convention Center (2 1/2 miles from the dome) for $204 after taxes. It looks to be nice.

That's expensive....I typically pay 122/night at Hilton towers, 112/night at Marriott Marquis, or 125 at the westin

a bit pricey. The Ga Tech Hotel was $160 before all the taxes and ****. I called around to most of the hotels right by the dome and they were either booked up or way to pricey for me.

A couple of years ago, I got a room at one of the boutique hotels downtown on New Year's Eve for around $100 on priceline. Atlanta is a big city. Paying a reasonable price for a hotel room shouldn't be a problem.

We heard that's where the SEC team would be staying. I booked over a month ago and got a great rate. I think it's all booked up now though.

I've found this to be the best search engine for a room. It compares all of the big name sites and is easy to narrow search results as far as mileage from dome, stars, etc.

Was going to wait until Sunday to try and book the Hilton or Westin after other fanbases cancellations but am thinking about pulling the trigger instead of being left out. Its down to Melia', Georgian Terrace or Hotel Indigo for me. Suggestions fromthe locals are welcome.</p>

problem is a lot of people show up and get rooms just to watch that stupid peach drop ... they should change the date on the bowl game I always thought to allow for the sports crowds ... that is why the prices are higher than the norm

And it is the team hotel according to the chick fil a site. It was open the 30th with a 31st checkout but full on the 1st. I got a couple rooms at the westin peachtree a week ago. And for what I have seen so far, it looks like the unofficial sixpack hotel as several here have booked there. It seems nice.

The Marriott Marquis had some room a few days ago but it is the acc hotel. But it is directly across the street from the Hilton and you can walk right over to the Hilton on a skybridge that runs lobby to lobby. There is also a skybridge that runs from the backside of the Marriott to the peachtree center with a small mall and food court so you can get some breakfast at the food court without paying nearly 30 bucks for powdered eggs, cold biscuits, and greasy bacon.

Rates were a little too high for me in the downtown and midtown area and most of them were already booked anyway that i looked at. I also looked in Buckhead but those were also really expensive. Does anybody know about the MARTA system and how bad it would be on New Years Eve. I was thinking about maybe staying either in Decatur or around Six Flags and taking the MARTA in and out of downtown. That or driving downtown somewhere and trying to find a parking garage or something.

Any other time, it'll be sort of crowded since it's a holiday and there's a bowl game going on, but certainly manageable. I've never had an issue using it before.

One year we were staying out in Buckhead, and we rode the Marta into downtown for New Year's eve. A friend was way to drunk so we moved towards the Marta entrance, saw the Peach Drop, and immediately walked under towards the train. We were back at our hotel in no time, because we avoided the massive crowds behind us.

Edit to add: Decatur is actually a nice little area. I stayed out there once and rode the Marta in for a Thrashers game.

the Emory area is nice ... they were building a new hotel there that might be open for business now ... the project was named Emory Hotel and Conf. Ctr....but that area can be really confusing and difficult to get around in if you are driving ...
the airport hotels are pretty nice and should have better rates
