If we are talking about pure talent and production, I would rank them:<div>
</div><div>1) J-Rock</div><div>2) Dixon</div><div>3) JJ - beat a bunch of teams, including Alabama, single-handedly in 1998.</div><div>4) Dicenzo</div><div>5) Davis</div><div>6) Ballard</div><div>
</div><div>Note, this is just recent history, I don't know enough about the old dawgs to make an informed opinion. I just don't think Ballard, at this point, has shown that he can consistently take a game over as the focal point of the offense. That said, he is definitely worthy of being in the conversation and I hope he leaves a mark this year and climbs that list.</div>

He does almost nothing flashing... but he sure gets the job done with the best of them (if not better)

When you think of our past running backs:
J-rock - blazing speed
D. Miller - shake you out of your shoes
JJ - Awesome Power plus some speed Probably my personal fav (but not necessarily who i think is best)
M. Davis - fuzzy cause I was just coming into sports conciousness but like MSU's version of Mike Alstott

But then you get to Ballard and what is he? Speak & power are good, but not great. Not overly shifty..... Soooo Ballard = TD stats?

I agree with others that the verdict is out until your can consider his total career in hindsight.

I have to take JJ.

Ballard's offense has Relf. If a defense loads up to stop Ballard, they'll pay the price. JJ didn't have that luxury and he still dominated. But, like Xenomorph said, get back to me in a few months.

I know he went in the second round to Miami, played a couple of years there and then I think he was traded to Cleveland(?). Always thought he was a hellavu back and thought he would do well in the NFL.

We've had a lot of really good RBs.<div>
</div><div>In reverse chronological order as I can recall off the top of my head...</div><div>
</div><div>Ballard</div><div>Dixon</div><div>Norwood</div><div>JJ</div><div>'Zo Miller</div><div>McGee</div><div>
</div><div>Do I think Ballard stands out above any of those guys? No. Norwood is the best one. Then Dixon. Flip a coin to pick the rest.</div><div>
</div><div>I could put all those names in a bag, close my eyes, pick one, and be totally happy with whoever comes out.</div><div>

He's played ONE season. He had TWO other players rush for over 500+ yards in the same backfield. He didn't rush for 1000+ yards. He did have a lot of TDs...

How about waiting until he finishes his career, or plays at least a second season before making these comparisons. Some of you guys have the cart so far in front of the horse that you can't even see it anymore...
