State, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, and Vandy cannot win the SEC or even play for the title when the SEC has teams like this at the top

I was just thinking this exact same thing. These 2 teams are so far ahead of the others you just mentioned, it is almost indescribable. Watching this game is depressing if you are Mullen, Freeze, Franklin et al.

Strength and speed can't be taught. Neither of these team does anything fancy on offense or defense schematically...just hard nosed old fashioned football. Saban said at the half that the team that can run the ball will probably win the game. In the end, it's all about having players. You have the players, you win the game most of the time. Corching up can go so far.

I was thinking when was the last time Mississippi produced a back like Yeldon, Lacy or Gurley?

You are 100% correct. Being a State fan watching this game gives you a refreshed dose of reality!

This is why it truly amazes me when our own fans ***** about an 8-4 record and going bowling for the third time in 4 yrs under Mullen.

I'm with ya- we have every right to be a little disappointed with the finish- but to act like we didnt have a good season at 8-4 is either delusional or stupid

Agree totally. You are definitely NOT stretching the truth here.

Linemen like that... I think JWS was here the last time we were even close to having linemen like that, but never on both sides of the ball at the same time like these guys have.

Agree, but we used to get much better linemen 15 years ago than now, we just ...

Now we get better QB's and less quality line on both sides. I am wondering if the spread that many High Schools are running now are changing the skills of the OL to be less physical as when it was basically 2 backs and a running game?

Exceptional OL make running backs, quarterbacks and....

receivers look real damn good and great DL makes corner-backs and LB look real damn good. This is where it begins and ends, period.

Which is where in my mind Mullen falls short. Whatever you thought about Croom, he was aiming to compete with Bama, etc. it was why he recruited the Oregon back, Ryan perrilloux, Suh and a bunch of other national recruits. Plus, he ran basically Georgia and Alabama's offense scheme, which he thought you had to have to win big.
Mullen is never in the picture with multiple big time out of state recruits and basically seems ok (or just can't get in the picture) with just splitting MS guys instead.
Maybe Croom was delusional about what he could do at MSU but the goal was sound. Get stud players and run a pro offense.
With Mullen's recruiting so far, we are never going to compete At that level. Never.

Are well coached and that's what puts them over the top in addition to what you said.

Right** Because Croom was a superior recruiter!**

How many of those national recruits did Croom bring in? Oh that's right - NONE. Give him credit for going after James, Perrilloux, Suh, and others, but DON'T give Mullen ANY credit for going after Cam Newton and the 25 other national recruits that have named us top 3. No way he gets any credit for getting Elijah Daniel, Jalen Ramsey, 4* JUCO LBs and CBs from Kansas, etc...on campus for OVs! Or SIGNING a 5* DE out of Albermarle, NC! No, let's conveniently forget about all that! Croom had it all figured out...he was doing a MUCH BETTER job leaving OVs and in-homes on the table every year! That joke was pretty damn funny.

News flash: LeMichael James would not have been a worldbeater in the SEC. That's why he didn't show up when he got his shots against Auburn and LSU. Would have been another slightly above average SEC scat back...that got drafted in the mid-late rounds into the NFL

I think we need another hammer...

like Anthony Dixon. I hope Griiffin will be that back in the future..I hope we can keep Kailo Moore as well.

Why Moore? He is a fragile track guy? I dont see him even playing college football 3 years from now...he is window dressing in a recruiting class

Oh yeah...ha.Damn,. forgot about that guy. I think our class right now looks

good.

If we could add Shumpert...it would be really good. Would that be our most 4 stars ever? I think it might.

I know he would not be a thumper like Dixon. But I do like his speed. I would love to see him return kicks. I think he would be better than Perkins.

On utube, it shows him running a 4.29.

Lacy kind of reminds me of Michael Davis from the early 90's, but Davis was harder to bring down. Davis was slower than Lacy but was like a cement truck going down an exit ramp. He would literally move a pile of tacklers about 3 or 4 yards!

Damn shame we didn't find a way to build on our appearance in the game. Vandy's having a big year, so the football gods do some work at least.

Except for one Saturday in Oxford. I still can't believe we couldn't punch the damn ball in the end zone. How many tries did we get inside the 5? Was it 7 or 8?

This is perhaps the dumbest post I've ever read on Sixpack. First, in recruiting, if you ain't first you're last and the fact that Croom recruited some guys we DIDN"T get didn't help our program one iota. The only decent class Croom had a part in putting together was the one he left for Mullen to sign. Secondly, the biggest reason our program still isn't where it could be is because of the lack of bodies on the OL left by CROOM. Mullen has definitely had his issues as well in OL recruiting but last year's class and the current class looks much better and at least we have a lot of bodies on scholly now to pick from which a couple of years ago wasn't the case.
