My guess is those listed below play. Maybe only 1 of the DL guys. Roberts health makes him questionable.

Tyjon Lindsay
Avery Roberts - health - knee injury?
Jaevon McQuitty
Guy Thomas
Damion Daniels
Willie Hampton
Deontre Thomas
Jaylin Bradley

I agree with all on this list except Bradley, barring injuries at that position

That many? Seems like a lot. Who of that group is actually ready and knows what they are doing playbook wise? I will guess none of the above play... let them redshirt, get stronger, get acclimated to D1 etc.

The top 4 (that made it):
Lindsey - Sees the field if he's healthy, period.
Roberts - Likely redshirting due to injury issues.
Gebbia - Redshirt.
McQuitty - Judging by his health so far, redshirt.
Other guys:
Rafdal & Allen: I think one plays, one redshirts. I think Allen is the RS.
Bradley - If he ends up playing at all this year I think that would be indication of big problems at the position. So, I'd really like to see him sit... Unless he's even better than we thought.
LBs: I think depth at linebacker allows guys like Hampton to learn the system and bulk up for a year. With Roberts down, I don't see any reason not to redshirt all of them.
Everyone else: Redshirt as well.

So, basically, I only see 2 guys as for sure hitting the field (It would have been 3 with Blades IMO). But... things always happen, so we will see.

None, not even the WRs?

There will be multiple freshmen playing. This isn't 1980.

1. Tyjion Lindsey - will be a freshman All American

2. Jaevon McQuitty - a slightly bigger version of Stanley Morgan, Jr.

3. Deontre Thomas- kid has made an early Maliek Collins type freshmen arrival. Upon signing day, every freshman who doesn't come early is given a very extensive lifting regimen. Unfortunately, not everyone takes it to heart. Thomas not only took it seriously, he excelled and showed up with abs at 290 lbs. Kid will play a lot early at Strong Side DE in the 3-4.

4. Avery Roberts - injury was minimal. He will be fine by fall camp. I wouldn't be surprised to see him backing up Weber by week one. He and Mo Barry create a very athletic duo inside.

Guy Thomas and Ben Miles are Wildcards. I think Thomas is too Athletic to keep off the field, but he could definitely use a year to get bigger. Miles is a great football player who has been in the LSU locker room and sideline for the last decade. He understands the speed of the game. He understands the intangibles to succeed at this level. I don't think you can classify him as a typical Freshman in that regard.

Agree.

I believe Gebbia, the 5 OL and Daniels are the only guys I would say are for sure redshirts. Next likely is Bradley. The other 9 could very well see playing time.

Wow Freshman All-American. Do you think Lindsey will return kicks? It seems like his production will be less is DPE is returning punts and Mazur kick offs.

You know if you combine this thread with the thread talking about why we didn't take a couple more kids to fill out space 6 months ago because Jones got hurt...

it almost kind looks like even if we took a couple of 3* kids late in the defensive backfield, they probably wouldn't have played significant minutes anyway.

Optimistic outlook I think, but I smell what you're cooking. I know a lot of people think DT will play, but I don't think he will. I think they sit on him and get him to target weight without rushing things. I agree about GT's athleticism, but he may be in that boat as well, unless he's employed more as a "package guy". (No pun intended :) )

Those projections are based on spring practice right? DPE was good at returning punts last year but no where near his freshman year. He was still a half of step slow and a little tentative. It will be interesting to see where they have Lindsey on the return game and in the WR rotation. I suspect he will have contributions in both areas.

You need to re-read that post. DT is *at* target weight.

For those favoring a large number of freshman seeing the field, I'm curious what your depth chart would look like? If anything, that would give a good idea of where a guy might sit relative to playing time.

Miles - special teams
Lindsey- McQuitty - depth at WR
Allen and Rafdal - will probably redshirt, i just don't think redshirting TEs is necessary.
Thomas - Natter and Newell are still on the team. There are only 4 other DEs on the roster.
G Thomas - freak athlete, potential to make a difference in pass rush.
Roberts - already 2nd team behind Weber
Hampton and Ward - special teams

I am just saying what I would do.

I am not a fan of redshirting entire classes. It creates smaller recruiting classes because 85 scholarships are spread out over 5 years rather than 4.

I can see redshirting a QB and OL. Right now there are 11 OL Soph-Sr. Cavanaugh will play 5-8, unless there is an injury. Unless the OLineman is a stud 5 star he won't play as a true freshman, so it makes sense to redshirt.
