Tie between Kevin Dockery and Kirby Jackson. Both got burnt BAD when they were here at State, but managed to have nice careers in the NFL.

would have never thought that the go to guy for a 2 yard out when we needed 4 yards would be playing in the NFL

I thought he was decent at State but never would've thought he'd go on to have the success he's had in MLB.

If so, he's #1 (with a bullet) on my list.
#2 would be Mr. BTMFAU Tommy Kelly. Not so much for making the league, but for Skeletor giving him that ginormous raise.

but I would have even argued back at the time he was playing for us that he really didn't even have any talent -- that he was just big and fast, and either didn't know what to do with that or just didn't care. Even at the time, I remember everyone saying that he was drafted STRICTLY because he had an NFL prototype body.

His velocity didn't increase that much. Paps could always bring the heat, and he's not much bigger than he was in college. The problem with Paps was that his only pitch was the fastball in college. I would say that his success has more to do with his development on the mound after college. His fastball did not have the movement that it does now. One could say that facing wooden bats vs aluminum bats is an advantage when you have a high velocity fastball. I know that he is facing MLB players vs college players, but a fastball that has little to no movement on it will get knocked around on any level. And his fastball definitely has plenty of movement on it now. I attribute this to his development by good pitching coaches after college. Cheating does not put movement on your fastball or teach you how to throw more than one pitch.

Accusing Paps of cheating is unfair. He also liked to have a good time in college and was just like most other college kids. I know that once Paps finished at state that he focused his energy entirely on baseball and that was not the case while he was in college.

edit: to direct question to MSU21

It's a simple question of why msu21 thinks that Paps has cheated. Hell even if he has cheated, there are hundreds that cheat and never even make it to the big leagues. I was just throwing out some actual information as to why I do not feel that Paps has cheated to get to where he is now.

Thanks for playing though. Would love to hang around to get your pathetic response, but it's friday night. Have fun in front of your computer.

you guys are a joke on this message board, I hardly ever post on the board, but when i see dumb **** i have to say something... Paps has never cheated he has just worked his *** off and now he has made it and people want to find something wrong with hard work.. I lived with the guy 4 years and we had many fun times in college but he never cheated ..... he is the most determined and competitive person I know.... he would compete to see who could tie there shoe faster if you wanted to challenge him...

Despite Eli winning the MVP, the story of the game was the Giants defense. Going into that game, many considered the Pats to be the best offense ever in the NFL. That the Giants D shut them down was highly impressive. Much more impressive than Eli's performance for sure.

And K-Doc got lots of PT in that game.
