Technically, none is; the Sturmgewehr 44 is the original, and the AK-47 is usually considered the design that popularized the originally German idea of a weapon with fully-automatic capability using ammunition smaller than a traditional rifle cartridge, but larger than the pistol round that sub-machine guns use.

My Uncle Bob was fond of claw hammers after he got back from WWII. If you saw Bob looking pissed off and carrying a hammer, you ran.

The ol' buzzard could throw one sidearm out to around 40 yards to take your legs out and finish you with the one he was packing in the loop of his bib overalls.

You should be thankful, other than a little brain damage , you survived.

ATI makes an STG-44 in .22LR, but the last time I saw one listed anywhere it was over $20k. One of those "wish I had the disposable cash" items.

Then there's people like this..... http://bearingarms.com/nuts-30000-stg-44-turned-into-ca-gun-buyback-for-200-gift-card/

A friend of mine used to date a very rich girl (she attended school in Switzerland) who's Dad had a propensity for screwing around. His wife caught him with some bimbo and he said he was leaving The guy loved to hunt and shoot clays and had very expensive guns to do it with. She couldn't get to the rifles initially, they were in a safe but she did have access to the shotguns, mostly Belgian Brownings and Berettas. The wife sold them all at 20 bucks a pop,(in 1977 dollars) in the local Ad Bulletin type paper.

The girl said they were deluged with calls including a visit from the cops who thought they might be stolen. Every shotgun the guy owned was gone by early that afternoon. Mom gave the old man a call at work to let him know she was having a guy come over to open the gun safe. Dad came home and the bimbo was sent packing.

That was one crazy assed family.
