It was a team mired in controversy, but it sometimes gets lost that Plainfield North had a great, fairly unexpected run. As a school, they had an 0-5 all-time playoff record before this year. The biggest surprise to me was their one-sided victory over Bradley in Bourbonnais. Will be interesting to see how they perform going forward. Sometimes a great playoff run can set the tone for a program moving forward.
Benet.Since there is a thread regarding underachieving teams, let's go the other way and discuss teams who had great years when nobody expected it.
Glenbard West. Probably not a single player going on to play in college at any level and they made the semis.
I 2nd what CAPN mentioned. Plenty of D3/NAIA/Maybe D2 talent on that roster. Maybe Pierce at the FCS level, but he's a good volleyball guy as well.Glenbard West. Probably not a single player going on to play in college at any level and they made the semis.
Just becuase their was no D1 kids on that roster, let's not act like there was no talent.

Based on the Kings Challenge, Maine South appears to be quite the overachiever. Only one person picked the Hawks to win 8A.
First time I did not pick the Hawks!!!I'm sickened.
That didn't go unnoticed but when I came to my choice for 8A, I felt like picking GW would have exposed me as a delusional. Picking a #26 seed like MS might have appeared laughable, unless you had inside knowledge that 75 would be moving onto the DL.
Never said that there was no talent. But compared to the previous Hetlett playoff teams, this on may have been the least gifted with perhaps the lightest O and D lines and not the real game breakers on offense that they have had in the past. And then to go on and beat NV, HF and EV... that's a pretty good achiecmentI 2nd what CAPN mentioned. Plenty of D3/NAIA/Maybe D2 talent on that roster. Okay, I'll agree with that. Maybe I just got caught up with the "were playing with house money" quotes. I will say that there have been more skilled Hetlet teams that did not achieve as much as these guysThree top shelf wins but any Hetlet team that doesn't win conference can hardly be deemed overachievers. Did they overcome some horrible injuries to restore some respectability to the season with a playoff run through three top 10 teams? Absolutely
Reavis.Though they did lose in the 1st round & finish 7-3 I don't think many seen this coming.Bad years at the Soph & Frosh A & B levels & coach Tim did it again.Playoffs!!!
Flyer overachieved IMO
Overachieve: "Perform better or achieve more success than expected."
After about week 2, The Flyer were favored and expected to handily beat every team (from Illinois) that they played. Which they did.
Agree with you
Just a quick note the Flyers period to play up in 7A last year. When you period up its for 2 years. which was last year and this year. So technically they would have to period the IHSA to play up again next year which they more than likely will.
I'm kind of hoping Flyer does not period up next year. I would love to see a Flyer vs Prarie Ridge matchup in the 6A playoffs. I believe Estes and Thomas will have graduated? (Not sure), but a lot of that Flyer D coming back? Think PR loses a RB and some lineman but their QB is back.
Would have loved to see this years matchup but I think next years would/could be equally good!!

Five of the seven wins were against teams with a losing record possessing a 12-33 aggregate mark. One of the two wins against teams with a winning record was at the expense of a CPS team. In addition, they played 6 home regular season games. However, the 28-25 loss to Lemont in Week 3, was a noteworthy performance. The weekly pre-game bluster at the 50-yard line is a disappointing spectacle, by the way.Reavis.Though they did lose in the 1st round & finish 7-3 I don't think many seen this coming.Bad years at the Soph & Frosh A & B levels & coach Tim did it again.Playoffs!!!

That remains too be seen.
