Kumaritashvili's death. The official spoke on condition of anonymity
because the 21-year-old luger's family hadn't been notified yet.</p>

An official statement is to be released soon.</p>

lost control of his sled near the finish Friday, went over the track

of it is pretty harsh he gets thrown and hits the metal barrier at massive speed, a lot of sites have it removed

Wow. Wonder if they'll make changes before the races. At the very least, I think they should find a way to make the support structures safer. Maybe line those poles with sheets of plexiglass.

That track sounds like a death trap - lots and lots of crashes in practice, even from the gold medal favorite.
