I'm at n Cincinnati today and watched their local news on this story. So what's the big deal? He was jumped by a group of African Americans. And the words "hate crime" and "racist" are not being used to describe the encounter. I have to wonder, if roles were reversed and one black person was attacked by a group of whites....well you know the rest. Sad that I have come to this way of thinking. But it's gotten to that point.

With Martin, Brown and Gray, the Administration made phone calls, sent in the FBI and DOJ to investigate and attended the funerals. They don't even know Kate Steinle's name.

The Hamilton County prosecutor referred to them as "lawless thugs" and said they serve no purpose in society. Wonder if he catches heat for those statements? And I'm not turning this in to an anti-Obama or democrats thread. Both sides race bait.

Have you all watched the videos? The behavior by a lot of the bystanders was pretty despicable. One lady tried to help the guy. But in one of the videos, they quit fighting and let the guy go. He walks around and picks up his shoe and puts it back on. Why in the he'll didn't he just leave at that point?

Does it matter?
It would certainly explain the position you took on this specific topic. So, yeah, to me it matters to help understand what personal bias you have which would lead me to better understand and identify with the position you take.

Position? Personal bias? Everything I said was fact. Have you watched the videos? I've been in a he'll of a lot of fights in my day, many times people tried to talk me out of fighting the guy because he was much bigger or older. They let the guy up. He walks around and puts on his shoe. When you're outnumbered a hundred to one, the smart thing to do is walk away. I said the actions of a lot of the bystanders was despicable and it was. There were also people there keeping some people from joining in. So explain to me my bias.

I said walk away. I don't know the motive behind the fight. Nobody in any of the videos I saw yelled honkey or cracker. They did use the N word. So explain to me my bias. I'm curious. I honestly don't believe i'm biased but I guess I come across differently to others.

I was just wondering about you a few days ago jj. Hadn't heard from you for a while and was hoping everything was ok.

The replies by a couple on this thread is why I've not been posting. Victims getting blamed for not leaving while the couple of African Americans who had criminal acts or did not do what our police asked or told them to do has violence against them and we have rioting. But blame the white guy for not running away after getting brutally assaulted. No hate crime here but if shoe was on the other foot...whoa!

We got Americans more concerned about a flag NOT of our country than the one they should be flying and supporting. Just a messed up country now.

And to be honest, I've been too busy. Baseball this year ended in the state tourney so that extended the season. Golfing a lot. Been to Cedar Point for a week. At Kings Island now. Home improvements needed done. Flooding rains and wind damage needing repaired. Been a busy summer. And only have 2 weeks before heading back to school. Yippie!!!

Why should he have to walk away?

Your attempt to rationalize the beating on how he should escape te scene vs. your failure to acknowledge Eric Garner's contributing behavior which led to his extremely unfortunate demise.

You appear devoid of being able to logically assess a situation free from emotion. The behavior see by you is consistent with behavior I see from black acquaintances or random black Facebook people.

As I said, it would just help me in understanding why you take the position you take. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme and if you're uncomfortable saying then that's fine.

"I was born a poor black child..." - that's a joke, a line from the movie The Jerk. I'm white.

Never in any of my posts did I rationalize or justify the beating the guy received. The one point I made was that they let him go, he walked around on his own, wasn't being harassed at that point and put on his shoe. If he had half a brain, he would have left, simply by walking away. No one on this board, not even the dumbest posters, would have walked back toward the mob and mouthed off when they were outnumbered 100 to 1. I hope they prosecute everyone in the video that participated in the beating. I also hope they prosecute everyone in the video standing around doing nothing, not rendering assistance and filming instead of calling 911.

Regarding the Eric Garner situation, there is absolutely no contributing behavior on his part. He was standing on the sidewalk minding his own business. If you watch the video, you'll see that the two POS officers never told him what he was being arrested for. I feel sorry for you if you think we should live in a country where officers can corner you on the sidewalk, harass you and arrest you for no reason. If you watch the video you'll also see that one of the officers started to mace him while he was just standing there. He reached in his back pocket and had his hand on his mace/pepper spray. The City of NY obviously realized the gross error of the two officers and paid the family. The Garner family's attorneys are going to have a field day with the officers next.

I agree with you on most things. First, why didn't he walk away? Who knows, and who knows what actually started it? It could have just been adrenaline and he was all hyped up and wasn't thinking straight.

Eric Garner wasn't being arrest for no reason. However, the reason was pretty damn minor and I don't see any reason in the world for the need for the arrest to have the outcome he did.

I don't know of any offense in our legal system in which the punishment is instant death by police officers. Certainly not selling cigarettes and not resisting arrest either. I'm pretty sure running away from a traffic stop because you owe child support doesn't qualify for that form of "justice" either.

I do think there is a ton of black on white crime that should be classified as hate crime and isn't. I don't know if this case is one of them or not.
