Can’t believe we held these guys to 45 pts. No way we win by 20 again. Pickett will get his but he has to work for them and if he plays his one man offense like last time we played we have a chance to keep their score
down. If they move the ball and he still gets his 25 pts that would be a problem.

I think Pickett will get his points, although he is worthy of a double when he backs his guy down into the paint. If Lundy and Funk hit a high % of their 3 point attempts it is going to be a long evening for us.

Caleb did a great job on Pickett. Hopefully his back is up to the task.

The gameplan will be the same. Caleb locks down Pickett who makes their offense go. Cliff dominates the paint since PSU plays small. Need Caleb and Cliff to step up here

Lundy is a concern from the 3 point line.Rutgers must hold Penn State to less than 60 points because they are only averaging 59 points since the Michigan State game.
Why start there?

Rutgers must hold Penn State to less than 45 points since they are only averaging 45 points since Thursday.

Since we last played them, PSU has a new hefty kid in the rotation (#24) who plays very physical in the post. While Cliff "dominating" in the post would seem like a reasonable expectation based on the match up, I just have not seen anything recently to suggest he can be relied on to dominate a match up on the offensive unless we really get the lob/jam game working.

True. We also had some great minutes with Mag and Hyatt in that game giving Cliff some long breathers. Mag did a lot for and much more than that which shows up in the box score. I still think we can rest Cliff some in this game which is huge.

Caleb locks up Pickett. Is too tired to play hero ball. Cliff makes free throws. Hyatt misses 3 layups but hits 4 threes. We win.

Cliffs FT trend is down. He missed 4 last game. He won’t make another this year. Negative chance we win this game

They also shot 15% from 3 in the game. I highly doubt that happens again.
Obviously we played great three point defense and it’s a great three point match up for us. You can tell because they shot 15% from three.

A Three Pointer Is Not A Coin Flip. They will probably shoot the same next time.

Didnt we dominate the Nits in the paint at the RAC? Assume that will be our strategy again.

Counting on Cliff to be a scorer in this game.

Yeah - we battered them down low.. Expect PSU to crowd Cliff and force him to pass out of the paint to open shooters. He really hasn't done a good job at that recently (high turnover rate), so he'll have an opportunity to improve in this contest.

Now that you put it that way, Caleb shot 100% from 3 last game. That must mean he’s made major adjustments to his shot. He should probably start taking 10+ 3s a game because it’s just as unlikely he’ll miss much going forward as it that PSU will hit more than 15% of their 3s…

When I saw the thread title I was hoping Pickett decided to give up basketball for hockey.

If Cliff dominates it won’t be from the post, it’ll be on the offensive glass

We (PSU) are a deceptively good defensive rebounding team, but have had a lot of trouble guarding the post (both from good bigs scoring, and from being forced to double and open up good looks elsewhere).
#32 in defensive rebound percentage.. and dead last in offensive rebound percentage. Do you just not go for them?

Boy, do we need this one. If we lose to PSU and Northwestern a 10-10 record could put us playing the first night. From top 4 hopes to bottom four....oh my!

We can only win this game if we get good and aggressive Paul and Cam gets back on a hot streak. Otherwise we are in for another loss and a step closer to bottom 4. I know some disagree, but we are a very different team without Mag both offensively and on defense.

I could point you to several posts on our board about me complaining about Micah’s philosophy this season…personnel certainly plays some role, but literally shots go up, and all five guys turn and start running back. There is so much concern about shutting down transition that we’re leaving so many offensive rebounds uncontested on all of these 3s and it kills me.

They’ve been doing this in recent games too?

Slow down Pickett and don’t let Lundy or Funk go off. PSU due for a let down. Maybe funky time slot hurts them.

I get the concept of wanting to get back on D but let at least one guy crash the offensive boards

Also, if your team takes a lot of 3's, you are more likely to be able to get offensive boards on long rebounds

PSU has lost 5 in a row outside of the bottom 2 conference teams. It's not like they are on fire as a team although Pickett is
