Whoever we get better be somewhat of a disciplinarian like Nick Saban was. Must demand excellence and punish stupid mistakes.
Nick Saban was only a disciplinarian if you weren't a big time contributor. Take for example Tim Williams. Failed (in his own words at the combine) "Many drug tests" while at Alabama. Not kicked off the team or even suspended. Ended up being a 2nd round pick.
Take Cam Robinson as another example. Got arrested for misdemeanor drugs and what would be felony illegal gun possession. The DA didn't prosecute because "I'm not going to ruin some young man's future who spent his childhood outside when other spent theirs indoors in air conditioning." You could say that about any drug pusher or gang banger out there, but I bet the DA doesn't for them. Cam Robinson wasn't kicked off the team or even suspended. Early 2nd round pick
Need another example? Courtney Upshaw. He got arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend. Kicked off the team? Nope. Suspended? Not one second. Future first round draft pick.
You can try to defend some of these. I've heard people say Cam Robinson wasn't found guilty of a felony. That's true, but only because he wasn't prosecuted. And remember - Saban is a massive disciplinarian, right? He won't put up with this, right? So why did he keep putting up with it?
