Sometimes I don't use it when traffic is heavy or near a big city. Big trucks on I-40 between Memphis and Nashville will pull in front of you at the last second and you have to slam the brakes to slow down. Happens a lot on that stretch and just about can't use cruise in those situations.

Well I hope you aren’t one of the ones who comes flying up on someone’s rear and then settles in behind them so close that a hiccup would put you in their @$$!

Or the ones who go to pass and then slow down and just ride along side you for miles!

👋 what you doing over there little buddy!?

Nope, not me. That'll get you shot at like Memphis Congressman Ford did when 3 trucks hemmed him in.

This has been a burning question for me for years. Blows my mind that people don’t use it on the open interstate with minimal traffic. Drives me insane when I’m set at whatever speed and some jackass speeds up, passes me, then slows down making me pass him over and over and over..
Two most dangerous things driving have to be left lane drivers and tailgaters

I think both of those things are solved if people could control their speed which is hard to do if you don’t use cruise control.

I don't use mine. Using the pedal I feel keeps me more alert of my surroundings and keeps me from zoning out
This is me as well. I typically keep 8-10 mph over on the interstate, in whichever lane is legal / appropriate at the time….and that’s been more than sufficient to keep me from getting pulled over on interstates and major US highways for nearly 3 decades. But when the interstate speed limits drop near major urban areas, I need ability to also reduce speed quickly when necessary for both safety and to keep from getting a ticket. Harder to do when in cruise control and like you said, much easier to zone out and miss the limit change sign.

My vehicle is also 16 years old, and doesn’t have fancy, new fangled gadgets like adaptive cruise control and auto braking, so it’s still up to me to manage that stuff. I also do most of my interstate driving in heavily traveled urban locations, so there are frequent lane changes and speed adjustments to be made constantly. Cruise control just doesn’t make sense for me very often, so I honestly just got used to not ever using it.

To be fair they are probably updating their social media most of the time instead of driving….

My truck has adaptive and our palisade has adaptive cruise and steering assist. If you’re on a long trip the steering assist and adaptive cruise make a big difference. I don’t feel so tired from driving all day.
Turning on the heated seat during longer trips — even during the summer — helps lessen back pain & stiffness…

Rarely if ever use it, with one exception. As I have gotten older, my leg will sometimes cramp up after about 3 hours driving. I'll turn on the cruise and stretch that leg out for a bit.

Then I'll turn off the cruise and go back to driving like a grown man. :D

I have it, but just don't trust it. I do use regular cruise control if the traffic is normal to light. Think I will save up and get a self-driving car one day......if I'm still alive then.

ACC is teh breasts. It includes lane keeping assistance, as well. And it keeps you from getting a ticket if you maintain it right.

The only downside is that you can end up following somebody going 20 MPH under the speed limit and not notice. But, as far as being distracted and lead footing it, it’s a life saver.

My car is 13 years old and has old school cruise control. I won’t use cruise control on congested interstates and especially in cities. We just spent a bunch of time in ATL for spring break and it was just pointless to try to use it.

I hate adaptive cruise control. How is a guy suppose to drink his beer, watch porn and talk to his fat girlfriend on the phone with that POS thing constantly slamming on the brakes because of those slow *** left laners? Just totally un-American.

I use mine, but like many have turned off the adaptive function. May give it another try on next road trip. The one exception is that I don't use it in the rain, read somewhere that it if you start hydroplaning the cruise will exasperate the issue, may be just urban legend but sounded somewhat logical at the time.

I use it when I can. Traffic in Nashville and between Nashville and Memphis is generally to get much use out of it. When heading to Jackson, I use once south of Memphis.

I have mixed feelings about the adaptive cruise.
I like it how it automatically handles when people slow down on the interstate for some reason then speed back up. I don't have to hit my brakes then turn it back on.
But I hate when it gets confused and unnecessarily aggressively brakes when I'm behind a vehicle that veers into a center turning lane and slows.

Why. You’re constantly having to adjust to surrounding traffic and you’re the one doing the adjusting rather than the car.
Because the car over adjusts too many times. Even at best it leaves about twice as much space as it should. And it’s far too easy to find yourself traveling 5 mph slower for a while before you realize you need to just pass. No thanks. I’ll drive my own damn car thank you.

This leads to a bigger annoyance than left laners. I set my cruise 9 mph over the speed limit on the interstate. I absolutely hate the driver that comes up from behind and passes you and when they get in front of you for some reason start to slow down to where you have to pass them. After you pass them then they will repeat the previous pass and slow down maneuver. I give people like that 3 exchanges and I will pass them at 15 over and get real distance from them before I put the cruise back on 9 over.

I turned off adaptive cruise and auto breaking. I would rather manage that than leave it up to my vehicle

Why not manage it while your car is driving for you? You can still watch the road and be ready to hit the brake while your car is doing the work.
