In the one loss he had he didn't lose on the mat, he was disqualified for some reason. His brother was excellent too.

And as I read it again for an illegal slam.
it was v Laurence and he had heinous things said to him and body slammed guy

Both of his brothers were outstanding.
TJ was also a 4 time state champion.
Steve didn't win it 4 times but may have been the most fun to watch.

I say Steve Williams gets on by virtue of his celebration dance after his title:

Now I'm curious about an all-time Mt. Rushmore (PLAYERS ONLY) for all sports for the catholic league based entirely on high school excellence/domination. Since i'm close to 40, I can only go back to 1985. This is tough.......

Toine "hooked on phonics" walker? Granted he was a good player but far from great. Poor attitude and laziness kept him from being a great player at MC. Willie Jones and Donovan were more respected and feared. Jerry Gee won Mr Basketball that year over AW.

I don't think his poor language skills are relevant, but I agree that he wasn't consistently dominant enough to warrant inclusion. Maggette was a better and more consistently dominant high school player in my opinion. They killed my SR Mustangs that year, and I realize that Jim Sexton was a great high school player, but rather amazing that MC did not win the title that year; I think Gee and St. Martin de Porres were in Class A that year??

Never said poor language. It was a cheer during the basketball games. I have no idea about his academic skills.

He was a fierce competitor but very respectful on and off the field. He played the game it was meant to be played. I'll never forget the brief conversation we had after our game senior year. True gentleman and obviously missed.

as far as MC not winning it they had they talent for sure. Peoria Manuel won AA in '94. Again WAY harder to win a title back then with 2 classes. Now baseball basketball have 4 classes-joke.

I retract my statement a bit. MC should never have lost to BR. However, beating Peoria Manual would have been a tough task, even with all of MC's talent.

I thought 92-93 was actually a deeper, better team. Walker, McNabb, Jones juniors but u also had a Troy Bowie. Much deeper team. Won at #1 team in Indiana that year as well Anderson. Lost to Thornton. Again just a much much harder situation with 2 classes. with the 2 class system only MC '85 and Joe's '99 were Catholic schools to win AA.

Rice was no slouch they were 25-4 and top 10. Sexton, Booker, Rico Hill.

Though a die-in-the wool SR guy, I always cheered hard for the catholic league schools in bball since they were generally not the favorites. Though I was torn when deSales played ESL since I loved LaPhonso. It was fun watching Kleinschmidt carry an entire team to the title game. I think Maggette single-handedly got Fenwick to the Final 8. Wasn't it still only 2 classes when Tracy Abrams got MC downstate?

Interesting question posed by Brian Bennett of ESPN....

Who’ll lead the Big Ten in receiving yards in 2016? @ESPNJoshMoyer goes with @JordanWesty1, while I pick @simmie104

-Brian Bennett @BennettESPN

====

Interesting Jordan Westerkamp played on the Montini Football team and Simmie Cobbs attended Montini.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Simmie Cobb never played a down for Montini, right? If so, do you find it at all odd that you are mentioning Simmie Cobb, who briefly attended Montini, in a thread asking: who is on your school's Mount Rushmore?

Peoria Manual won 4-years in a row. Those were amazing teams. Sergio McClain started as a freshman and won four rings in a four year HS career 1994-1997.

Here is a fun article on that team and Manual Ram's basketball history.

Yes I know Cobbs never had a chance to play football for Montini (senior year due to funding issues and junior year due to IHSA rules to sit out a semester I believe?) and probably picked the wrong thread.

I just thought it was interesting ESPN was debating who the best wide receiver would be this year in the Big Ten and they were debating Westerkamp & Cobbs. Westerkamp attended Montini for 4 years and played football while Cobbs went to Montini for 1 year (OPRF for 3 years) and played basketball

I enjoy watching them both play!

Yes, exactly.
I sure hope that Cobbs at least has time to stop at Jewel's for a post game snack. It's a shame all of the Dominick and Cub's Food stores are gone from them here Chicagosland.
