of all time?

The C-L had some nice mentions- several of the South Panola teams from this decade, the 1999 Madison Central team, the 1987 Pascagoula team, and a West Point team from the 80's.

I'm going to go with the 1999 Madison Central team. They blew everyone out running out of the I-formation. The only exceptions were Clinton with McDougle, Hoge, and etc., and they came back on them on the road when they were down by at least three scores. They also went into South Panola and beat them. They could have beat Provine by more, but MC decided to run the ball up the middle every play, and they still won by 10.

led by Shane Matthews.

This year's SP team has a real shot at a national championship.

Mt. Olive, put a team on the field back around '75 that on the season scored 426 points and had 9 scored against them. There were no state playoffs then and I remember Petal wanted to play us after the season was over. We took our team of around 20 guys down to Petal and got beat 3-0 on a long field goal in the 4th quarter. Even though we are/were a 1A school, we were ranked in the top 5 of the Big 10 poll that year. By the way, our current head coach who won the 1A championship last year in his first year back home was on that team. I'm sure there's been better teams among the big schools in the state but I dare say nothing 1A, 2A or 3A could touch that team..

Mississippi has ever produced. They never had a kicker (always went for two) and when Petal lined up for that 40+ yard FG, they had no idea what was happening.

The teams that Pascagoula beat to win the championship in '87 were a combined 34-2 not counting their games with Pascagoula

Starkville gave South Panola a pretty good game twice in '03.

thats why I'm saying the 2002 starkville high school team. they were last team to beat South Panola at home before they went on that run. Plus that SHS team went on to beat Moss Point in the state championship game 38 to 3 allowing 3 first downs.

was that they were a one hit wonder. 3-6 in 1986, 14-0 in 1987 and a dominating run to the state championship. Since then they haven't been past the second round, and have only been to the playoffs 11 of 19 years.

From 1981-90, Madison-Ridgeland High School (The Braves, not MRA) won 35 games and lost 62. They had as many 1 win seasons (3) as they did winning seasons. The best record in school history was 6-3.

After the school became Madison Central, they are 150-50, have 11 10-win seasons, 15 playoff appearances (only 3 years without) and that '99 state championship.

South Panola has never beaten Moss Point in a state championship game. In 2003 SP beat the **** out of Oak Grove and if I remember correctly no one came within 3 TD's of SP that year and Starkville was not that good. The year that Starkville almost beat SP twice was in 97 when they had Freddie Millons and Moss Point beat SP for the title 10-7.

that '87 'Goula team was so dominant on both sides of the ball for that one year, it wasridiculous. Shane Matthews throwing all over the field to McCorvey, Grant, etc. Buckley returning kicks, punts, int's for TD's...

Vicksburg's '73 team had James Jones and Michael Sweet in the same backfield. Richard Blackmore was in the slot. Blackmore and Jones both played for MSU and in the NFL. Sweet played for Ole Miss and was leading the SEC in rushing when he tore up a knee. VHS had Gavin Rees (MSU) at SE. Norman Joseph (MSU) and Ernest Young (Alcorn) split time at QB. I think everybody that started ended up signing with somebody.

It was a badass team.

The last team to beat USP before their run was Wayne Co in the 2002 Championship game. Which was the only loss USP had that year.

Had Brian Darden, KP and crew. Beat South Panola with Dwayne Rudd and Deshea Townshend, also beat Smoot and Provine to get to the Championship game.

I'm gonna guess Jackson crime rate + residential land development in Madison = population explosion. Very simplistic I know..but I believe there are currently around 1500 10th thru 12th graders enrolled at Madison Central. They are bound to find some boys who can play in there.

We didn't have the star power, but were a much more physical team. It would have been a great matchup, but it never happened. So after you ducked us, you lost to Greenwood in a bowl game. Either way, that team, or my Murrah team, is not anywhere close to the best HS team in Mississippi

He was like 30 and 1 over 3 years before he was hired as an assistant at ole miss. His teams destroyed some very talented teams from Jackson Murrah and Provine as well as from Biloxi in the old Big 8 conference.

Easy answer to the Madison Ridgeland question: before Madison Central there was a high school in Flora called East Flora. For a 1A school, they had lots of talent. Bringing those boys in helped improve the talent pool.

And we beat Moss Point 34-0.<div>
</div><div>Of course I'm biased, but the undefeated 1994-95 Starkville High teams get my vote. Back to back championships, winning 4A in '94 then moving up to 5A and winning again in '95. Several Division I players (a few who went on to the NFL) and a ridiculous amount of shutouts against good teams.</div><div>
</div><div>They had a hell of a water boy those years too. Kid was barely ten years old but he never let a man go thirsty.</div><div>
</div><div>Edited to address hgsmith and Mulligan:</div><div>Starkville High (2001) was the last team to beat South Panola IN Batesville before their streak, just as the previous poster pointed out. And in 2003 Starkville did play Panola close twice. And I know these things because I was on both teams.</div>

I'm biased, but they really were awesome. A lot of the guys have already been mentioned, but, going by an aging memory...<div>
</div><div>QB was Matthews who led Florida to their first SEC Championship, was the first Fun N Gun QB and had the long career in the NFL as a backup. Buckley won the Thorpe and had had 50 NFL interceptions. McCorvey was a bit player on that team as a soph. Keith Joseph had a nice career at State, Godfrey started at center 2-3 years at LSU and Ricky Alexander started two years at LB for LSU after transferring from Perk. Donald Moffat (TB) led Houston in rushing for two years. Carl Tart (S) was all SWAC for a couple of years at JSU. As someone mentioned, John Grant (TE) was a huge talent who's career was ended by injuries and his backup Anthony Clark signed with State the following year but I don't think he ever made it to campus. Maybe the best player on the whole team was DE Eddie Flora who was Powesque and never got a look from anybody. I'm probably leaving out at least a dozen who played small college, SWAC or juco. They were truly dominant, beating Greenwood in the championship game 27-7 (or thereabouts) after handling Clinton and William Prince's Warren Central easily and on the road in the playoffs.</div>

and also Mike Justice being a really good coach who had a great vision for the new school's football program. Justice brought a lot of swagger and that turned into pride in the program from the community. East Flora provided a lot of talent even though it was a small community, but also the numbers of students also provided depth. And also, MC had a great weight lifting program under Justice. It was always South Panola and MC competing against each other for first and second place.

MC jumped from 2A to 4A literally over night, and they had a losing season in the first year of the school, but after that they started going 7-4, moved to 5A, and went 7-4, but missed the playoffs, and then the next year went 7-4 and got the crap beat out of them by Clarksdale, but then in 1995 they went 11-0 and finished 12-1 losing to Tupelo.

And Ridgeland has a pretty good team as well- I think that they ended up in the top four of 5A this past year.

And next year there will be a Gluckstadt high school opening.

ETA- former MSU WR Jerry Bouldin played at East Flora.
