I’m sure it was approved by the president. In reality it’s virtue signaling and really does nothing but draw attention to themselves instead of the issue they claim to be protesting. They’ll get pats on the back from the media and others who want to feel morally superior by virtue signaling about the team’s virtue signaling. In the long run it’s nothing but another way to divide people. It fixes nothing, offers no solutions and just isolates people who have a different opinion on how it should be handled.

I think it HAD to be approved by the President... Agree with everything you said.

Seems to me that the coaches/administrators have missed a chance to really lead on this one....

And people all across the country violate the US Flag Code every single day with their clothing but I don’t see anyone on here bitching about that.

Yet when a largely black contingent of people kneel it’s disgraceful.

agree with your first comment, but this has nothing to do with color ("...largely black contingent..),... why make it so?

How about people flying flags at their homes and let them get all ragged and torn and discolored. I think that is terrible. But I’m not going to knock on their door and tell them.

It’s meaningless...as a veteran, I hate it, but these kids have no idea what they’re doing. They’re young and dumb...I hope they never have to figure it out the hard way.
From one vet to another, I couldn’t have said it better. It’s like wearing the cool shoes at this point-all the kids are doing it.

If they keep winning, who gives a ****.

If they go back to sucking, while focusing on **** other than basketball, I will be angry. Because they get free tuition to play basketball, not focus on activism.

I don’t know why they’re kneeling this time. Don’t really care why they’re kneeling this time. They’re children. Their thick headed coach is walking a fine line though. Better keep winning.

it just had to be The Hillary or China who made UK do this... no other explanation because we all know who is behind this evil

Stop being a little ***** snowflake where everything you don't agree with or understand offends you

Something tells me those upset with this are the same ones who agree with terrorists attacking our government

Who gives a ****? People who still get outraged over this and can’t grasp exactly why these teenagers are doing it are the bigger problem. Shut up and quit watching if it bothers you that much, nobody cares.

So, does anybody know what they were protesting? Why did they pick the game at Florida to do it? Will they do it every game?
Maybe this was another way for Cal to stick his finger into the eye of the fans, again.

Regardless, everbody associated with this can all go to hell, including everybody on this board supporting it.

These idiots are given the chance for a college education sponsored by the tax payers and have a good career and make a good living, some will become instant millionaires in a few months. So pardon me for not seeing where they are oppressed.

I will quit watching, but I won’t shut up. I give a **** as do many other fans, deal with or quit reading the board.

How do you think it ends up if Cal tells the players they can’t kneel for it? It might make you feel upset now to see it but how would you feel if you reinforced the media’s view that we are the racist school? They’d be chomping at the bit to make a very prominent example of UK. How do you feel about it then?

That label was created by the media in 1966. Nothing was true about it then, but the label is still there because you brought it up. So you think that will will change after 54 years, no matter whether they kneel or not?

Most people would have zero clue the kids knelt if the official MBB Twitter account hadn’t made a big deal of it.

That’s was a dumb decision after the blow back last time.

Given the current economic state of KY, and the historic failed education system, I doubt most people throughout the state what to hear they’re racist and privileged from a bunch of teenagers who are making a short stop then getting the hell out as quickly as possible. Some fans have probably never made it out of their holler their entire lives.

Winning helps, though, so they need to keep it up, or the blowback on Calipari for focusing on anything and everything other than maintaining a successful UK Basketball program will be even more severe.

There’s nothing racist about criticizing this. I’ve read plenty of black writers, personalities, etc. who do, so what’s the issue? You hit the nail
on the head though about media. They can get away with anything and very few people will question them.

I follow it. I also HAVE knocked on doors over flags needing retirement and do every year. I have a scout son and a lot of military in the family history so when we do the retirement ceremonies it’s always a chance to pay honor and people are usually happy to turn them over once you explain it

I guess I just don’t understand the outrage over this several years after players started doing it, but it obviously does, so I acknowledge that. The players seemed pretty respectful yesterday. Remember, this comes a few days after a bunch of rednecks and Trumpers, several carrying Confederate flags, stormed the Capitol. Not a black face to be found. I don’t really understand why we pick a sporting event to play the national anthem anyway.

the condemnation of that was pretty common among right and left leaning people, too. It doesn’t make this “trend” the right thing to do. And as cute as the condescending remarks are from people with the “nobody cares about you” stuff, they are a cop out from engaging in a topic because you don’t matter, either. At all. So nobody should have an opinion? Then why be here on this board? Why even be free at all? If we don’t matter, just make us all standard with standard incomes and closed mouths just having our government set everything for us. Oh wait, that’s what you want and voted for

that last part was not directed at you at all but others in the thread who took that position. I only quoted this because I thought your question and point was fair so I wanted to respond to that part then had additional thoughts haha

Why pick a sporting event to make a protest? It sure as hell not a good way to gather lots of support. All it does is further divide, so why do it?

Probably the same reason that we used to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance before the start of every school day...

The timing is my biggest issue. This was NOT the week to start this when we as a nation desperately need to come together and have cooler head's prevail.
It was an awful decision to do this yesterday because regardless of the intent, EVERYONE knows it's extremely divisive, and was the absolute last thing this state and fan base needs.

Shame on whoever approved this, and didn't use the UK platform to instead push unity and healing after this awful week.

There are lots of idiots in this world who don't know things.

THIS IS a racist, bigoted unAmerican ideology born from idiot pseudo-intellectual academics justifying their careers, at best.

Turned for profit.

The university should be ashamed of themselves.

Young people over-estimate their importance to society.
Celebrities over-value their message.
The outrage of the protesters is only matched by the outrage of the people who want to protest the protesters.

I wasn’t there. I didn’t see it happen or even know it happened until seeing about it on here.
To me, this is like finding out about some of the things my children had done, after the fact.
When they grow up, they will either be proud of it, laugh about it, or wish they had been somewhere else that day.

This is getting back to my original question. If it was Cal green-lighting the decision, then
From one vet to another, I couldn’t have said it better. It’s like wearing the cool shoes at this point-all the kids are doing it.

Am a vet as well, too. 22 years, deployed several times... As I said above am giving the kids a pass, and certainly don't wear this issue on my sleeve, but where is the leadership from Cal or our administration?

The timing was poor (as mentioned above)

The forum was divisive.

I have even more respect for someone like Dabo Swinney who resisted the urge to just "go along"....

Makes me wonder how much of an actual LEADER and "molder of men" Cal is? And if approved higher than Cal, similar thoughts for them...

Is he the one who saw the "noose" and reported it?
No...Bubba was not the one who saw it and reported it. It was one of his crew members. After investigating, it was determined that it had been there for a long time and was not directed towards Bubba.
