I mean, what in the literal 17. You mean there are people out there who sit there and watch videos of idiots yapping their mouths about nothing? The only people who can get away with this are hot chicks and even they are borderline retarded/stupid in their videos.

Yeah, I guess I contributed to the idiocy because I checked out some of these 'reels' and what not. I have never seen the populace as stupid as they are right now. At least do something cool in your video, like go into the hood and stare people down with weird music like Topnotchidiots.

"Generate content", holy hell talk about mind numbing ridiculousness.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but the arrogance of these people is just beyond my level of comprehension. I love how they are there to help you but please like and subscribe so I can make money filling people's heads with ********.

Did you listen to your peers when you were growing up? I did.
I did but I shouldn't have. I call it immaturity, and it depends on if your parents are sheep, as to whether or not you learn the lesson early or later.

Most of us did. And I expect that will continue regardless of the medium of communication. And instead of referring to them as influencers we referred to them as the cool kids. Same difference.

I watch something from Linus Sebastian just about every day. If he was a hot chick I might watch it twice.

There are a few fitness influencers I trust. They talk about how hard it is to get views doing basic exercises with proper form, while a video of a nimrod doing bench presses on an excercise ball goes viral. And this gets to the main problem with the "influencers", the good ones don't rise to the top.

Beef ain't really with YouTube, especially when there's some legit action going on. It's the nimrods who just sit their yapping and moving their hands around.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who watches entirely too much YouTube. Hell, I listen more often than I watch. I'm too lazy to find all of Simon Whistler's podcasts. The majority of it is history stuff, so I'm not really watching people do/try things.

The exception would be those handful of channels where dudes tackle really neglected yards. Yep, I'm officially old now.

I would like to join you in throwing stones, but alas, my house is glass. 20 something's today would **** their pants laughing at me if they knew about the world's biggest *** whooping I received in 8th grade for running up $400 in phone charges calling 1-900 numbers. Turns out *67 did not prevent the phone company from knowing who was calling. Never made it past the lady on the other end of the line playing with her nipples.

Funny.

A couple of years ago I got a call from a parent of a kid on my baseball team. The parent tells me that they're not letting the kid play baseball for the next two weeks. I inquire about what's going on.

This damn kid had run up a bill of over a thousand dollars on a credit card signing up to porn sites. I didn't know whether to volunteer to help with punishment or to pull the kid aside and tell him that youporn is free.

Touche'. I can't imagine paying for porn now days. It was rough in the late 80's and early 90's... If you didn't have access to your weird uncle's porn stash, it the unmentionables section of the Sears catalog buddy.

Hell, today... I'm not even halfway through all the free stuff from The Fappening. Can't imagine paying.

A lot of it is mindless watching. Some of can be interesting. Some of them are nothing but copycats or just starved for attention. Many lose their value after a couple of videos and aren't interesting. Some have figured out how ti make a living on posting videos and good for them. Always someone going to watch. I don't care for many of them. I do follow some for some travel, restaurants, bbq, and cooking stuff. A lot of the people doing "sports" updates for the same crap you see on any social media. Too many people trying it that aren't good at it. Free market will work it out. Unless there is something interesting to someone their viewership will die and they will do something else.

I trust Rick Steves when it comes to travel.

I enjoy travel vlogs and there are great producers of this product. I can name three airline attendants that can out produce Rick Steves when they prioritize travel. They are Jetting Julia, Kacey Cassady, and Kat Nesbit. They don't travel volg all the time but they are great when they do. A motorcycle girl "Itchy Boots" from the Netherlands is outrageously good for global travel. Back in the DVD days I bought Rick Steves content and it was great until the new sheriffs, in town, arrived. Cheers

Travel vlogs can be good and one thing I really like about the ones you’ve recommended is that they have subtitle capability.

One thing I’ve constantly stated about podcasts is that I want transcripts— since I’ve got some deafness in both ears I’ve had some difficulty hearing what people are saying in podcasts even with hearing aids on and so I prefer transcripts or subtitles as aids.

One thing I wish a lot of vlogs did was to emphasize recommendations to people who want to travel— looking through those briefly it appears that many of those videos are more personality driven— which isn’t bad.

However for someone like me who wishes experts would get to the point, I like something more itinerary driven:

Where to stay?
Where to eat?
What to visit?
How to travel?
Helpful Tips?
What to avoid?

And generally the best way for me to get that information is via the written format.

I am guessing a lot of those people aren't what I would consider "influencers". If you're producing actual scripted or semi-scripted entertainment that's not just following you around in your life or you are providing instruction/expertise, I would consider that different from being an influencer, where the only value you are allegedly bringing is exposure to followers, who largely follow you because you have somehow convinced them that you're cool or your life is glamorous or just that you will put them onto cool things or trends.

If their kid is dumb enough and non-tech savvy enough to run up $1,000 in credit card bills on pron, then they probably need to have him play twice as much baseball and hope he is good enough to go pro. I feel like any teenage boy with a 90 iq or above combined with the motivation that his hormones are giving him should be able to figure out how to get free pron on the internet, so his future may not be bright if he's not a professional athlete.

I trust Rick Steves when it comes to travel.

The "problem" with Rick Steves is that he was so popular at one time his recommendations would result in places getting over run. Not sure if he still has the clout to do that.

The problem with the travel Vlog people is that they are mostly just pushing whoever is paying them to advertise. Doesn't mean they won't give good recommendations, and I'm sure the ones that are smarter are selective about what they push to make sure they maintain some credibility, but I don't think you're going to find the true hidden gems that way. Those places basically don't spend a lot on advertising.
