Opposite of the thread below about the biggest bust. There has also been an equal number of bargains. Players who were low draft picks or undrafted free agents who turned into HOF material.

Curt Warner
Tom Brady

Others?

Curt Warner was a first round pick of the Seahawks back in the day.

Kurt Warner was undrafted.

Johnny Unitas. 9th round pick by the Steelers. Cut before the season started and spent a year working. Tried out for the Colts a year later.

Joe Montana. Last pick of third round out of Notre Dame, fourth quarterback taken (behind Jack Thompson, Phil Simms and Steve Fuller). Four Super Bowls later, many a GM kicked themselves in the ***.

walter payton and Jerry Rice both had to be low round picks. If they were they have to be in there. two of the best ever at their positions.

Jackson state and MVSU.

you busted me - didn't realize he went 1st ... I thought he was relatively

unknown given who he played for in college

ETA - in that case I'll change my suggestion to a former LB for the Falcons - Jesse Tuggle (try-outs walk-on)

Morten Anderson. Wasn't drafted by anyone. Is the all time leading scorer for both New Orleans - 13 seasons, and Atlanta - 8 seasons. 21 years with a total of 2544 points scored. Holds more NFL records than I care to list here. Not bad for a walk on.

Raymond Berry-20th Round

Didn't start in High School until his Senior Year, and his dad was coach. Only caught 33 passes at SMU. One leg shorter than the other. Was near-sighted and had to wear contacts during the game. Slower than molasses.

However, he worked so hard and attention to detail, he became the #40 all-time great player in NFL history. Unitas-to-Berry was the Montana-to-Rice combo of the day. Dropped only two passes his entire career. Retired with 631 receptions, and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1973.

His post-playing career was pretty good too-led the patriots to their first Super Bowl, and had winning teams in New England until his last season in 1989.

Steve Largent. Fourth round draft pick by the Houston Oilers. Cut during preseason and sent to the expansion Seattle Seahawks. Hall of Fame inducee and held virtually all receiving records at his retirement. Quite a feat considering he had the likes of Jim Zorn and Dave Kreig throwing to him.
