Irony is Towers has that kind of wealth but he is linked to the guy everyone wants gone. What's more important, a new coach or the basketball facility? tick tock tick tock.....

the key is to start a company and take it public, not be named the ceo of a public company, unless you then take it private

Are there any Rutgers alums on that list?

Maybe we should grant honorary degrees to the Wilf brothers (owners of the Vikings), Woody Johnson (owner of Jets), Bon Jovi (interested in football--his kid plays at Notre Dame) and Bruce Springsteen?

I'm sure RU is working this. Would think an appeal via a "home state pride" (don't laugh) angle might be effective, as well as presenting an opportunity to "build something" as a legacy gesture, an ego move.

Hey OP. There is no Rutgers T Boone Pickens which is why everyone, including you, has to step up to the plate. If we continue to hope someone else picks up the tab, it'll NEVER get done.

Al, I agree whole heartedly.

Why would some non alum do something the vast majority of alums refuse to do?

Heck, we could do a fundraiser concert with Bruce and Bon Jovi and call it the Concert for the Pride of NJ, or Representing New Jersey. At $100 ticket and 54,000 seats, that would raise $5.4 million. Has this idea ever been considered? Even Gov. Christie would be all over this idea, as he is a huge Springsteen and Bon Jovi fan.

Setlist:
Bruce
:
Lost in the Flood
I'm Going Down
Downbound Train
My Best Was Never Good Enough
Brilliant Disguise (The Princeton Library version)
Cover Me (dedicated to our defensive backfield)

Bon Jovi:
Living on a Prayer
Keep the Faith

Is there a Rutgers grad who's made that kind of money,or will in the near future. that loves this school to the degree Pickens loves OKS?http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/2006-08-15-pickens-oklahoma-state-donation_x.htm

Since we don't have a TB Pickens, I guess we'll have to earn it the old fashioned way i.e., have a reason for alumni and fans to gladly contribute to the athletic program at RU. And that way is to have a dynamic Head Coach that can fire up the troops and produce teams that are deserving of everyone's support because they fight and they win. (Sorry for the run-on sentence.)

when you find your Boone Pickens do NOT cut him from the basketball team! Boone originally attended Texas A&M and transferred after he got cut from the team. The rest is history.

Preaching to the choir. I would guess that the average person on this board is probably allocating a pretty good chunk to RU.

Why isn't "Billionaire Rutgers Booster" Towers on this list of wealthiest New Jerseyans? Does he not live here?

How many of the NJ Top 50 have a Rutgers connection? I see #1 on the list at $10 billion is David Tepper whose wife is a Rutgers alum and donated $3.4 million to Mason Gross School of Arts.

while I am thankful for the recent donation from J&J, it really isn't that much $30-50k. For a multinational like J&J who has grown up with Rutgers you would hope there would be a more robust relationship

That list of wealthiest NJ residents was pretty interesting. Surprisingly, I know a few of the members, some of whom I would've never guessed would be on that list.

The other thing I found interesting is a guy even higher on the list--net worth around $790MM--is also in teh auto dealership business.

And people say selling cars is a low margin business...lol

One of Texas' bigger boosters is Red McCombs (the b-school at UT is named after him) who got his start selling cars. He diversified later but I didn't think car dealerships was that big of a money-maker either.

Bought a car from his dealership a couple years ago. He still had a desk on the Ford sales floor for when he wants to get out of the office. Ford was his original dealership. Seemed like he just liked to hang out there and chat with anyone & everyone. His desk was right near the Keurig so he made himself very accessible. Seemed like a genuine type guy who just likes people. Had no idea he was that rich. Heck, if had known I would've talked up RU.
