Heritage has a better record. How is this even a debate. Lol
Better record should be the last criteria. Not saying Heritage did but, If one team played a weaker schedule then they should have a better record. Doesn't mean they should be rewarded with home field for playing a weaker schedule.

Yes Heritage plays a weak Schedule

I disagree. They played Northside, Appomattox, and Fleming out of district. Northside and Appomattox made it to their region championship game with just 1 loss each. I wasn't saying Heritage played a weak schedule. I was saying that's why record shouldn't be a criteria for home field.

Heritage was 9-1 with a tougher schedule than LB who lost two games. Yes one was to blacksburg but there is no way anyone would say heritage played a weaker schedule than LB.

Per VHSL tie-breaking procedures:

(a) The Rating Scale-Considering all regular season games played against
public and non-public Virginia schools and scheduled in accordance with the provisions of
68-4-6.
(b) The winner of any games between the two tied teams if only the tied
teams are involved. If more than two teams tied, and one of the tied teams beat all other
tied teams, that team shall advance.
(c) The team with the better record against all common opponents.

Meaning Lord Botetourt would host because they were 2-1 against Northside and William Fleming. Heritage was 1-1 against Northside and William Fleming.
Mike, this is listed as determining ties for Regional seeding, not state Semi or Final seeding. It is my understanding that the VHSL has a policy that dictates that the home field for Semi-final games is determined by the higher seed in their respective regions being awarded home field.

I do not know this as fact, but if this game is still being shown on the VHSL website as being played in Lynchburg, then this must be correct. Because, if you apply the tie breakers, it appears as though LB would be the host.

Well that's a stupid way to detwdeter a tie breaker. LB can't find a tenth game so the extra game against Northside would count? Am I the only one who sees a problem with that?

If this is the case, how do they determine who has home field when two teams are the same seed. For example, in the other Class 3 game Culpeper and Phoebus both are #1 seeds in their respective regions. Does it then go to Power Ratings? I assume so since Phoebus is the host team.

Phoebus host’s because of a higher power rating

Both have same power rating, but Heritage is no1 seed in c while LB is no2 seed in d. From what i read on vhsl that makes Heritage home team. Im anxious to see the outcome as the vhsl website does not show where or when.

The VHSL site shows City Stadium 2:30.

The picture link you gave shows TBD. Maybe a older unrefreshed link.
I'm sorry to keep going around in circles but mine shows City Stadium 2:30 and I refresh it over and over again and it keeps saying the same thing. That's weird.

Unless that is something new @DinwiddieProud, then the higher seed thing must only be only a tiebreaker. I remember someone else saying the same thing recently that it went by seed not rating, but last year in 2a, 2 seed Poquoson traveled to 3 seed Robert E Lee for Semifinals

Shocking... The VHSL didn't address how to determine tiebreaker procedures for the semifinals!!!! Instead of using the same regional tiebreaker procedures already spelled out in the rule book, they just made up a new semifinals tiebreaker that went to the high seed. This was not spelled out in the rules and the precedent they used was 7 years old and under a completely different playoff format. And I have no dog in this fight.

The higher seed gets the homefield advantage. That is for tiebreaker only

No, the higher rating gets the home game.

Examples last year:

2a (3)Robert E Lee hosted (2) Poquoson
3a (4) Hopewell hosted (3) James Monroe
5a (3) Tuscarora hosted (2) Stafford

I dont remember where Louisa/Lafayette and Salem/Sherando was played.

There aren't any examples to use from this year

It should be universal for state semis and regionals
And if that's the rule then put it on paper. VHSL spent the time to lay out the tiebreaker rules, but then forgot to mention that was only for regional games and semifinal games had a completely different tiebreaker procedure.

Only in a tiebreaker situation. Both LB and Heritage had 29.9 power rating points. That's where the dispute arose. @Gunz41

Yes I know that, maybe I misread Wikki post, which is certainly possible. I had said it's based on rating and said examples last year and she said higher seed gets home field. That is in tiebreaker only.

If I misread, I apologize. @wikki is one of my favorite posters on here, as well as you @mike salem and @DinwiddieProud

@Gunz41 no problems. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that power rating is first and then if there's a tie for the semi-finals then it's based on seeding. I was just frustrated with the VHSL laying out the tiebreaker procedures for the regionals and then having a different set of unwritten rules for the semi-finals. If the rules are different so be it, just put it in the rules. That was my only contention.

I've had the privilege of meeting wikki and DinwiddieProud and they are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
