Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
Screw Cal. He got fat and lazy. First 10 yrs of Cal was equal to the greatest run of UK hoops in my lifetime. It equals Pitinos tenure in my mind. But he got fat and lazy and then didn’t leave with grace. He was perfect for UK when he was hired, but his exit was bad. Enjoy beating him. But I’ll still celebrate his time here, when he’s retired and not coaching a rival SEC team.Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
Hey he left us, after he pissed just about anyone and everyone he could here, he is arrogant and will not change with the times, he is stuck in the past, glad he is gone, don't really care what he does at Arkansas, but the trolls from there are the ones who come over here and post crap.Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
"Kentucky eats first!" right?Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
You understand "him losing" was to us.Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
I do appreciate not having to pay the buyout, but was that intentional by Cal? It violated his contract by talking with Arky without permission. And rumor was he tried to comeback to UK but Mitch said no, thankfullyI actually don’t get it either. He did UK a huge favor by leaving without asking for his buyout. Stoops on the other hand wanted every penny and our fans seem to still like him.
I still respect Cal but have zero empathy for Stoops.
I take glee in him losing because UK won an important game.Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
He didn't choose to leave without taking his buyout. He was essentially fired for violating the terms of his contract with Kentucky, Kentucky allowed him to leave without any buyouts he so could save face by not being publicly "fired".I actually don’t get it either. He did UK a huge favor by leaving without asking for his buyout. Stoops on the other hand wanted every penny and our fans seem to still like him.

Pitino went to UL and there are people who wanted him as Cal’s replacement, probably still do. You couldn’t pick a bigger rival. He went to Arkansas. Why go to a rival, an SEC team?
I still cannot believe people claim that Cal doesn’t prioritize winning. What a laughable statement. Even after seeing it hundreds of times, I still smile. This can’t be a serious post…
1.) He’s an insufferable douche canoe.
2.) He thinks he’s better than UK fans and likely southerners in general.
3.) He thinks we are all a bunch of morons who doesn’t have half the basketball knowledge that he does. Funny considering he’s one of the worst bench coaches in the country.
4.) He went out of his way to try and prove fans wrong, that his ways were the right ways. This was mainly with lineups and playing time. It cost UK countless games the last 7-8 years he was here.
5.) He didn’t prioritize winning at UK. His top goal was always to get his precious kids in the nba. Fox even said this in an interview.
6.) He wasted more talent here than anyone in CBB history. To only have one title with the teams he had is unthinkable. You’d almost have to try to screw up as bad as he did. At MINIMUM he should have won 2 titles here. Truthfully he has nobody to blame but himself for not having won 3 titles here and he realistically could have won 4. This is the most unforgivable sin.
That’s just a few reasons off the top of my head. I wanted him at UK bad when we hired him. At one point I thought the world of the guy and absolutely loved him. Those days ended many years ago. Now I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire.

You left #7 off your list. HOF coach. This can’t be a serious post…

The problem was that it seemed like he was much more focused on changing the players families financial futures than making sure they didn’t get crap out early in the SEC tournament. When fans spend a lot of money to go to Nashville, they could give a crap about the NBA.I still cannot believe people claim that Cal doesn’t prioritize winning. What a laughable statement. I guess it is hard for some to grasp such a deep concept, but when you prioritize getting draft picks and building them up into superstars, the winning sort of takes care of itself. If he didn’t prioritize winning, do you think he’d have the win percentage he does?
Cal is all about winning. Sad that his last few years here turned out the way they did. He had the most amazing run I have ever seen by any program in my lifetime.
Probably because he constantly mocked our fans, State, and tradition. That’s hard to forget.Yes he stayed too long, but he got us a title, 3 FF's and a runner up. Then when he did move on he did it without costing the university a huge buyout. I just see so many posters taking glee in him losing. I don't know I just don't get it.
Pitino went to the Boston Celtics. At the time, no one resented him for that. Then he failed and went to Louisville from the Celtics and people loathed him. Then he basically became a pariah and had to move to Europe to coach. He left Kentucky nearly 30 years ago. Calipari left Kentucky 1.5 years ago snd immediately went to an SEC school.Pitino went to UL and there are people who wanted him as Cal’s replacement, probably still do. You couldn’t pick a bigger rival.
What are you talking about? Stoops did us a HUGE solid restructuring the payment deadline which allowed Stein to come in and do some things he wouldn’t otherwise have been able to do. That would’ve sunk the program back to Joker depths. He didn’t have to do that.I actually don’t get it either. He did UK a huge favor by leaving without asking for his buyout. Stoops on the other hand wanted every penny and our fans seem to still like him.

He priority was running a style of basketball related to the nba to get recruits. That’s how he sold the players to come to UK. If your fully committed to winning you play whatever it takes to win, including zone which he never did for starts.I still cannot believe people claim that Cal doesn’t prioritize winning. What a laughable statement. Even after seeing it hundreds of times, I still smile.

And that’s why Pitino got the 3rd degree and was so hated in Rupp. You can’t go to a rival and expect an applause.Pitino went to UL and there are people who wanted him as Cal’s replacement, probably still do. You couldn’t pick a bigger rival.
I'm SO VERY GLAD to see you make this point, KF ! Let no one ever think that CCC intended to do U.K. any favors. CCC crapped in his mess kit by having a substantive conversation with Don Tyson about a potential contract with the Hogs while CCC was under contract with U.K. It's called BREACH OF CONTRACT. For a short time CCC tried to dance around his screw-up, but somebody with university authority at U.K. jumped on the opportunity to get rid of him AT ZERO COST to U.K. and told CCC to pack up and get out. Best thing to happen to U.K. since World Wide Wes got Anthony Davis for the 'Cats !He didn't choose to leave without taking his buyout. He was essentially fired for violating the terms of his contract with Kentucky, Kentucky allowed him to leave without any buyouts he so could save face by not being publicly "fired".
You hit the nail right squarely on the head, Phil ! In addition to the facts that got him the nickname "CCC", you hit all the right notes ... arrogant, condescending, and a world-class bullshitter ! That about sums it up for me !While I was happy with the success he brought our program, I was never a big fan of his. He's arrogant and condescending as can be. He thinks he's the greatest to ever coach the game and he's not even that good. He's a world class bullshitter who can recruit. I enjoy watching him get humbled.
You're way off on this, as far as making it a sweeping statement. I hate Cal, do not expect to win every game, don't expect a final four every year and I'm one of the people defending Pope. The ones who hate Cal are the same ones who think we should win every game and be in the Final 4 every year. Probably the same ones who have already given up in Pope. You know, the fans that give our fanbase a bad name. They are all the same IMO
