Why anyone would want to vacation in Chicago is beyond me.

Its not like that area has incredible fine dining of any type, world leading museums, incredible architecture, a great sports atmosphere, first rate shopping, nationally awarded golfing, and more entertainment for kids than they can handle.

That place sucks. There is no reason to go.

........eat at Chicago Chop House, go to a Cubs game or two and fly home. Not for a long vacation. vacations need to have oceans and beaches in them. And fishing and golf. Or if youy have kids...mouse ears.

never looks like that, it usually has about 10000 times that many people when its warm. And its very small.<div>
</div><div>Not sure where that picture of that golf course came from, but it doesn't exist anymore.</div><div>
</div><div>And I see people fishing out of the chicago river all the time, I'd recommend not eating the fish caught there though. I did see a dude pull out like a 75 pound carp one day on a little *** rod/reel.</div><div>
</div><div>Sadly I have to agree with cowbell9 on this one, unless you are coming here to watch baseball there are about 200 cities in the US I'd choose to go visit before I came to Chicago. Maybe its just cause I live here and have seen all the crap the people listed in the other post from DS and 90% of it sucks.</div><div>
</div><div>edit: JesusChristI can't reply correctly today, sorry</div>

So if I were to go on a trip to Chicago I would have to go watch the White Sox. Ozzie always has a way of making the game interesting anyway.

....I am sure you spent some time googling and searching to post that idiotic reply. Everyone knows about Chicagos "beach" and that there are fish in a lake... If that is your definition of a beach and ocean, then you are the dumbass. I prefer something along the lines of Atlantis ( 6 days in May) or Cape San Blas Florida (just back from 10 days) . But you go ahead with your head exploding exictement trip to Vicksburg. Effin idiot

You live there?</p>

Growing up, and pretty much every time ive gone back and seen it, the beaches arent 10K times more packed. And i say beaches because there is more than 1. Damn, theentireNorth Shore is coastline. </p>

...unless we are talking literally only the city here? In that case, a trip to LA wouldkeep you from evengoing to Disneyland.
The Chicago area has great beaches.Lake Michigan obviously isnt the ocean, but at the same time there is a lot less oil compared to the whole Gulf. Its atradeoff.

And the golf is friggin FANTASTIC in Chicago. Harborside, Cog Hill, Cantigny, Glen Club, etc etc etc etc.

That picture is (I think) from North ave beach, which is ALWAYS packed on the weekends, you can't walk anywhere without stepping on a towel or blanket. Obviously there are other beaches around, but that is the one that is closest to downtown.<div>
</div><div>As for golf, Chicagoland has plenty of great golf, but that picture he posted with a golf course that has a view of the prudential building is either photoshopped or a course that used to exist and doesn't anymore. I think there used to be a golf course around where I live, but it was dozed to make room for the Lakeshore East development where I live. That picture looks like it was taken from the middle of Grant Park looking north, and there is definitely not a golf course in Grant Park.</div><div>
</div><div>Anyway, I wasn't trying to say that you can't go to a beach or a golf course in the Chicago area, I was just saying that those pictures are not valid.</div>

though born in Mississippi, my entire family is from Chicago - still have a slew of aunts, uncles, & cousins up there. Been back twice the last several years. The lake front is fantastic: Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier - would take days to see all. Very clean and well policed away from all the violence. What I really like is that there are a total of four Imax Theaters in the area. If it is hot, I suggest take a break from the sites and go to an air conditioned Imax. Trivia: The Planetarium has an old, 40 foot long telescope on display that was donated by Northwestern U. Read the plaque in front of it. The telescope was custom built in New England in the 1850's and was intended for the new Barnard Observatory @ Ole Miss. However, as the plaque reads, the Civil War broke out and it was shipped instead to NU. Two eatery suggestions: Ono Pizza (home of the deep pan pizza) and Lawry's Steakhouse.
