I guess I am guilty of this according to you... But at half time I wanted to bet a friend of mine at the game with me $20 that we would not score 10 points in 2nd half and that we would end up losing if we didn't... Needless to say he did not bet me and then we ended up losing in the second half... You can bring 15 offensive coordinators to this staff and until Mark Stoops can figure out what kind of offense he wants to run its not going to do any good because he is micromanaging the offensive side of the ball when he needs to get the hell out of the way and coach the defense and leave his offensive coordinator alone because he knows nothing about it...

I don't think it's a defeatist attitude. It's more like a reality based attitude.

And it isn't just Kentucky football fans that lack confidence or lash out after losses. Georgia fans just ran off Mark Richt. Nebraska fans ran off Bo Pelini (never won less than 9 games in a season). One year into Mike Riley's tenure, a lot of NU fans are ready to run him off. Les Miles is one of the best coaches in LSU history, yet, many of their fans want him gone. Hell, Denny Crum WAS Louisville basketball. U of L fans ran him off. Nebraska fans wanted Tom Osborne gone (took him 21 years to win a national title). The list is endless.

Fans are fans. Doesn't matter if it's Kentucky or the Dallas Cowboys. If coaches don't win, fans want new coaches. If QB's struggle, fans want the backup. That's just the nature of the beast.

Because it's been the reality of this program since 1977 (when we were cheating)

Excellent post and I'd like to add (just an opinion) that I believe that fans simply want coaches to meet their expectations. Did anybody out there believe UK was going to be in the top four this year? No. But a realist could say based on what they saw early this year, that we had a legitimate shot to be at least 9-3 (U of L, Vandy, Auburn, Florida.) Based on expectations, UK should have won 6 games, and that is a realists' expectation.

Now, when you go to the big boy powerhouses, you can win games all day long, but if you don't meet expectations (win championships or at least be in the discussion) then you have to go. This will probably ruffle a few feathers, but if Calipari gets to a place where UK is not in the running for a Championship or winning one from time to time, some UK fans will say he needs to go too. I love Cal and the atmosphere that he has brought with him at UK, but I'm telling you for some (many), winning it all is all that matters. Cal knows this. That's why he always mentions it, but he also will continue with his agenda of making young kids and their families life better, and if you want him gone for that then the fan base will be the ones looking like donkeys. Cal knows what he's doing.

Well we lost by 2 touchdowns, so I'd say the handwringing was justified.

History.

Everybody knew that we were going to go ultraconservative and score few if any more points. It almost cost us earlier and it did cost us Saturday. We do not have a good enough D to sit on a lead for three quarters, especially when the O is doing the three and out.

When UL changed qb's and ran the read option a couple of times you knew it was over. I had a function I had to go to and missed the last couple of minutes of the third quarter and all of the fourth but I knew we had lost the game.

This is better question for this team. I have never seen such terrible body language well since Halloween night against UT or Miss St. game, or UGA game. I mean this group needs a complete overhaul of toughness, first time adversity hits, team hits them in the mouth they fold like a wet umbrella.

Fan base can see the slumping shoulders, guys not playing real hard and getting off blocks.
IMO

Our expectations, real or perceived, were set too high at the beginning of this season. I have lived through 6 decades of Kentucky football and I am hungry for a respectable program. I do not expect to be like Alabama, but I would love to have a program that could win the OOC games and compete with most of the SEC teams. I am tired of being a bottom feeder and a joke in the SEC.

Frustration is difficult to manage when you buy into a "weaker" that normal schedule, better recruiting, high powered conditioning, experience on the OL, better than average RBs, etc., etc. And these things don't seem to matter. You need to vent somewhere!?

I sometimes want to give up on Kentucky football, but I have been following it so long I just can't do it. I love UK.

Go Cats!!

Because we fans have seen UK teams find more ways to lose than cCarter has liver pills(you old timers will get that)The UK football fan base is the most resilient in the country,we make Charlie Brown look like a pessimist when it comes to football(we've showed up longer than he has missed that kick)

The fans aren't the problem,it is impossible to explain how(since the 1960's we have brought generation after generation of players into the program that believe they can't win,but the fact is we have.

When we were on the 25 yard line after the bad punt, I felt we definitely had to get three points. When it was 3rd and 9, I was hoping we would run off tackle or up the middle, but definitely not pass, since I didn't want to take a chance of a sack. I thought the 3 points were very important there.
I know a lot of posters would rather go for 7, but with a 24 to 7 lead, I just wanted to add at least 3 more.

Because we've only known terrible football.

I've seen us lose by 70. I've seen us lose by 1 at the end. I've seen us squeak by EKU. I've seen us lose to Western. Twice. I've never seen us post a winning record in the SEC. (Born in 80).

We're either waiting for the other shoe to drop or not flinching when the worst does happen.

The UK football fan is in an abusive relationship with UK football.
