An uncontested free kick that can score and send the Super Bowl to it's first ever overtime. Poor decision, there.

On a fair catch kick, the other team has to line up 10 yards away, so you don't have to worry about a block at the LOS, making a 70 or so yard field goal more possible. But I agree, at that distance it's pretty unlikely anyway. Maybe he still should have done it for the novelty of it.

I think he should have taken a fair catch anyways. The hail mary probably has a bigger chance than a runback.

Do you have a better chance at a run back there?

I would have elected the field goal, personally. It's uncontested... basically a kickoff.

Because Akers, the worse FG kicker in the league, was going to line up and make a 90 yard field goal.

From 90 yards out?????? Kickers can't kick it through the uprights normally, off a tee, from the 30 yard line! It's impossible. The runback is the best option unless you're playing the Broncos.

Yes, too far away for a kick. A run back has about as good of a chance as anything in that situation.

Unless I had Morten Andersen or Ray Guy

on my team- I would have to go with the Stanford-Cal play in that situation.

I'm wondering why the hell the 49ers didn't run the ball at least once inside the five. They needed to use clock and score. I'm not sure- but it looked like they were going to run some type of bootleg with Kaepernick on the play where they almost ran out of time. Gore getting stopped and getting a second and three or second and two with the clock running would have been perfect. Instead they throw three times?
