Why did we ever stop running the triple option?

AU never stopped it. I guess you could say that it was like our version of the "wildcat". It caught them completely off-guard, and Relf had 5-6 yards every play just keeping the ball.

open the half with the td with relf leading us down the field, get the onside kick, and then throw the ball 3 straight times to go 3 and out. Those three pass plays were the most idiotic play calling since Mullen has been here.

Chris Relf can't run the triple option in the SEC 20 to 30 times a game without getting seriously hurt. The dude took a beating last night.Everytime he ran the option he paid for it and struggled to get up. I have serious doubts this can be done.

The passing game plays were there...rightafter the onside kick, the passing play was there wide open and often target. Yeah, the dumbest idea ever, pass the ball to wide open receivers.

To call the deep pass after getting the onside was the right call. It is called going for the jugular. We would have totally deflated AU at that point. We should have ran it on second down, and depending on the outcome possibly third as well.

you actually have the qbs and wrs to execute the plays. A lot of times Relf would over throw them or under throw them, and when he did seem to hit them they would drop the passes. But I see where you are coming from on going for that the first play after the onside kick, but like you said not at least attempting to run the option on 2nd down really hurt.
