Why do posters keep saying that Schiano wouldn't want to work for Hermann?

I'm with you Blitz, a lot of people mention this as fact... but in reality, I don't see why it wouldn't work well. Maybe they know something we don't? But more than likely it's hearsay.

Hermann obviously likes to be out of the picture and prefers to think of sports more holistically than just football. From that perspective, why wouldn't she want to welcome a mini CEO who's obsessed with football, wants the same goals, and allows her to focus more on other sports/university matters? On the flip side, why wouldn't Schiano want an AD who's really supportive, but wouldn't get in the way of football? I mean all things considered... they seem like a pretty good match.

I know some posters will run on here and say "oh, greg has to control everything. He can't work with anyone!" But, anyone that actually has met the guy or talked with people that have worked with him, know it's mostly rubbish.

As far as I can remember, the idea was initiated by the SL, where it was stated that Schiano wouldn't work for Herman, and I believe it was the opinion of everyone's favorite columnist.

Also, Barchi may be retiring soon and Herman has been unfairly portrayed as somewhat of a disaster, hence all the leaks of the admin not trusting Herman to make the hiring decision. Coaches prefer to attach their future to an AD who they think will be there a very long time, and it remains to be seen whether that will be the case for Herman.

Personally, I like the job that Julie is doing, but concede she has lots of critics, especially those that loved Pernetti, who seem most vocal.

I think the larger question is, why do people continue to make assumptions about what anybody would or wouldn't do unless they have actually spoken to the person in question? It's kind of a constant theme on this board where people insist that so and so will or will not do this or that.

Most of the time, I view it as either wishful thinking or maybe an arrogant or lazy way of stating an opinion. It's laziness when people just don't want to bother saying "I think" so they just drop that which winds up being a declarative statement instead of expressing one's opinion.

Arrogance comes into play when people appear to want to state their opinion very strongly as if, somehow, the force with which an opinion is stated somehow correlates to the likelihood of the opinion being correct. Which it clearly doesn't. It only makes the poster look even more silly when the assumptions prove false.

Because people like to make guesses and assumptions based on Julie and Gregs personalities. That doesnt make it true.

Some douche in the gym last week who Is just a casual RU football fan at best said everyone hates Julie and Schiano would never work for her. Gee I wonder where he read that?

I actually think it maybe the other way around, I don't know if Julie would want him works big for her.
Someone mentioned before how Julie is looking at all the sports. Greg would only be focused on football.
How I see it, the quality that allowed Greg to build this program would be a detriment to what Julie is trying to do. Greg will push and push hard that her focus and funds be back on his program and not on women's volleyball.

Think the reason GS went into overdrive to get out was Barchi and the coming austerity. Don't think he'd come back with that still in place unless it was the only decent option. More Barchi than Julie, imo.

Maybe. But often times the are forced to do so. They don't often choose to work for someone they don't see eye to eye with.

I have no clue if that is Schiano and Hermann, though it wouldn't surprise me.

Lighten up Frances it was a joke. And to be accurate I didn't call you a douche. Also if you are going to make such bold posts (while calling out another poster) you better have thicker skin.

How could Schiano know if he never met Julie?

The JH haters/KF lovers cannot have it both ways...Either they never met and the story is BS, or they did, and Julie is actively seeking qualified candidates to replace Flood.

To be sure, there is backing from some donors for GS, so the GS haters best hope that faction doesn't pony up the most cash.

This. It would be hard for Greg to work with barchi who fired his boy Pernetti.

And what of Pernetti hiring Rice and Flood and ruining the image of RU as a school that does things the right way and that plays defense?

I imagine GS going to into a rage watching Flood's teams allow everyone to score at will, nevermind reading the report on Flood and Flood's players extracurriculars.

GS is a smart man. Whatever he thought of Pernetti before, Pernetti handed off the keys to what Greg built to someone who has wrecked it.

Im not so sure that Greg and Tim were on best of terms at the end

Yup...I have heard that Pernetti wanted to keep Flood on staff when Schiano wanted him canned.

Among the many good reasons to celebrate the end of the Flood error, one will be the end of the Pernetti error, and disastrous effect and damage done to my alma mater by the two clowns he hired to coach both major sports.

Greg was given a lot to build this program. He even got a stadium expansion, unthinkable today. He left, just as the whole climate changed and athletic spending became the target of the University Administration. Not a coincidence. It still is and he won't be interested in that, hard enough to win here even with full support. Nothing to do with Tim Pernetti although if TP was banging the desk to get Rice removed and then became the fall guy, hard not to sympathize with him but that just didn't seem to be the case.

Herman and he would get along fine. And if anyone would be worried about how it would go, I should think it would be her in having to deal with a control freak demanding things. What could she or any boss possibly say or suggest to a guy who thinks through every single detail twenty five ways and sideways?

Really? GS went into overdrive to get out of Rutgers because of Barchi? Did he have a crystal ball? Because Barchi wasn't selected as president until months after Schiano was already in Tampa Bay.

If the rumor started with the SL, Greg and Julie are probably actually bff....I could imagine the texts...

JH: Did see about Flood's emails?

GS: OMFG...:/

GS: I will rebuild the rock solid foundation, we're just a lil dinged

truth be told--our former president nearly kissed Schiano's ring--was at certain steak house in New Brunswick where building contractors were meeting both-I was amazed, Schiano ran the show and the deference to him was stunning

2 year unemployed beggars can't be choosers

I wish I could be unemployed and get paid $3 Million per year.

I don't understand the love for bringing GS back.
He not only left us at a terrible time (that part was understandable)
but he took so many coaches and also behind the scenes people that he
stripped the program. That is how we ended up with Flood as the head coach

Austerity, Barchi, same thing. We went from paying Schiano $2.5 million to not budging off a $1.3 million offer for Crystobal, moths before Barchi got here. The days of pumping money into football were over and suddenly for GS, "it was time."

Well considering Schiano left more than two months before Barchi was even named and 8 months before he took office, I think you are probably wrong.

Could the fact that we were looking to be stuck in the AAC for a while have influenced Schiano. I guess. Or maybe you know, he thought that making more money in the NFL was better than making less in college.

Would he come back. Yep - if the money is right, I would guess he would. We might not be the first school on his list, but I suspect the first schools on his list also dont have him first on their lists either.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Spending on football increased from Schiano's last season to Flood's first season.

No that is not accurate. Flood was hired as head coach before anyone left the program for Schiano or others schools. Maybe that should have been a sign to all of us that no one wanted to work with Flood.

We went from a blank check era where our football coach was the highest paid in the conference, the school was self funding stadium expansions and constant facility upgrades to one of the lowest paid coaches in P5 and needing to raise nearly every cent of every single facility upgrade.

That turn happened right around the time Schiano left. I surmised it had a lot to do with his decision to leave. Obviously, for Rutgers to move forward to the level of a PSU and the ilk, which was his goal, a lot more money would need to be spent. The guy had a model of a fully built out stadium on his desk. It would make sense that as the winds of financial support turned against building, it would be a pretty good time to check out for a football coach intent on building. If that's not correct and I don't know if it is, what is the reason he suddenly employed Bellichik and Peter King to get him out of here?

Total nonsense about Schiano wanting to fire Flood, the reason Tim & Greg were at odds was over Tim's plan to redo the RAC & raise the money for basketball & not raise money for a new indoor football practice facility that Greg was demanding. Greg felt that the indoor practice facility was promised to him when the stadium expansion was approved but with the cost overruns it was cut out of the plans, so when Tim started on his RAC plan & not Gregs plan a rift ensued.

He operated in an era of stadium expansion and an administration willing to operate millions of dollars in the red to Barchi telling

I guess I would argue that those items were not independent of Schiano, but because he was a bulldog who fought for those things and made them happen. Maybe everything is exactly the same funding wise now as if Schiano were still here, but I'm not convinced of that. The guy saw what he thought was needed and made his case loudly and forcefully. I'm pretty sure Flood doesn't have the personality, or the leverage to go in and start talking about how he needs more money for the program and how that will pay off in the end.
