Why does Dak get paid so much?

I'd also say that Dak was underpaid for several years, so it's almost like he's making up for what he wasn't paid when he was younger, even though he was arguably better when he was younger (like every other athlete).
Similar in my job - I was much more motivated and worked more hours 10-15 years ago. Now I don't put in as many hours and all I can think of is retiring in 4-5 years, but I'm getting paid more than when I was giving more to the company. Of course Dak pays 10x more in taxes than I actually make, but whatever.

In a general sense, been a lack of pass development across the board.....at least the QBs that the NFL really needs. It got really good 25 years ago but has shifted to the run. Youth leagues all the way through college value the running aspect so much and the passing isn't as developed, and more than likely many good passers that can't run and are simply being left behind and not making it to the NFL.

Once you get to the NFL, all the defensive speed catches up with you. If you aren't superman like Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, or have a superteam around you like Jalen Hurts, hard to be elite by being a run-first guy with suspect passing.

So you get average QB play that ends up getting paid more.

And I don't blame the youth leagues, high school and college. It's simply easier to win at those levels with a running QB, unless the passing guy is just elite. It just don't fly as much in the NFL (literally and figuratively).

Not specific to Dak, but if you have a top 15 QB in the NFL the going rate is $40+ million/year to keep him. That explains his first big contract.

It remains to be seen whether his second contract was a Jerry mistake.

Cowboys win it all in 2026

I've never understood why this is so hard for some people. Not just in regards to Dak, but any proven starting NFL quarterback.

If you are one of only about 15 people on planet earth who can do what you do as a vital part of a 250+ billion dollar industry, you are going to get PAID. It doesn't matter that you haven't made it to an NFC championship or have an occasional bad game. Throw on top of that he plays for the most valuable NFL franchise and is very marketable.

This constant "he's not worth that" talk from some is pure ignorance (or just content fodder).

He was 2nd in MVP voting with CeeDee Lamb and a bottom of the league Oline in his last full season.

State fans wanting to take money out of Dak's pocket to keep it in Jerry Jones' is just wild to me.

Because he’s better than he gets credit for, and that little relationship called supply and demand.

Jethreaux summary incase of a paywall:
Too many teams need QB’s and too few options available. Only 2 QB’s (Sanders and Ward) are potential high draft picks, but they aren’t considered locks to go early in round 1.
Yea, simple economics….ask Andy Dalton.

And that’s not nearly enough for the local mouth breathers. They think they can just drop him and plug in the next guy.

Outside of maybe Mahomes, no other QB could do anything with this roster, this defense and this owner. As much as I’d miss being able to see him play, he needs to go to a real franchise and prove himself.

Nah, as far as the reality of it.......we all want Dak to make as much as possible. He's the most famous MSU sports figure maybe ever.

Most people's curiosity is just, why aren't we getting better QB play? Economics are the economics, that's all fine.

Exactly! He was just the next man up contract wise.

When this question pops up just think about how valuable anybody would be in any industry if they were among the top 15-20 people walking this Earth who could do what they do.

It was the same with Romo and White back in the day. Unfortunately, Dallas QB1s will never have more than 50% support until they put a ring on their finger.

I’ll say it again. The franchise is the Cleveland browns with better branding/marketing. The decisons have been based in total dumbassery since jimmy departed. They are a tutorial in how not to run an nfl football club….in every way except money

Not to slow your roll, but they did win a Super Bowl two years after Jimmy was gone.

I’m sure this is a waste of time but…
Aikman, Emmett, Irving, novacek, Steph, Nate newton, Larry Allen, Woodson.

I mean yah, the core didn’t change like at all. Small pieces.

Is your argument Jerry is a good owner, and Switzer deserves credit?

this team now is a waste of air and space. With or without Dak.

My argument was that they did something positive after Jimmy left. Two years after he was gone, they won the Super Bowl. That counts as “positive”.
