Why does grounding into a DP not give you an RBI?

I've always wondered that. I guess they are saying you did more harm to your team? I mean you still batted the runner in.

The 2 most common explanations are

1. Because you may have done more to harm your team than good.

2. Because it's a rule.

Batter is not rewarded if there 2 outs on same play..

And either out is a force. If neither out is a force on the play (be it a very rare occasion) the batter is awarded a RBI. I've never personally seen it happen.
