Why does our HD board look so much better than UM's?

They both cost about the same. Ours looks really good, theirs looks really average.
Did we just get a better deal or did they get screwed?

is they got a name brand company (Daktronics) and we didn't.

One reason not to do with $$$ Ole Miss's is in the sun during the day where ours is not. I think that makes a huge difference as far as the picture.

I do think that the facade of your board looks a lot better. Ours to me looks like panels of some sort. I haven't seen both in live action to know if the picture looks any different.

Either way, as someone said, they're both the 60" plasma screen in the trailer compared to the rest of the SEC schools.

and maybe it was just my piss poor attitude on the day of the egg bowl, but I was not overly impressed with your picture. It was definitely nice... I just wasn't blown away

Seen both in action a few times. I like em both. I like our's (state's) better though. I'm bias. The things that I like about the UM board better. The banner screen on the back where they run ads year round and can have score updates or announcements. I also like the graphics with UM better but that has nothing to do with our board. It seems like every school's graphics are better, Fix the graphics Greg, I know you are reading this. Our board looks 10xs better in asthetic appeal though. Drove by the board today and the painted logo on the back looks very nice. Now we just need to fix the spots where the metal has rusted and ran down the sides of the stadium and paint a little bit and throw some good looking banners around and I will fall back in love with the place.

being less quality than the rest of the SEC. TENN's is terrible, Alabama's isn't as good, ARK's is 5 years older, Auburn's isn't as good, and both are better than LSU. I don't know what USC, UGA, Vandy (i'm sure UM and State is better), or Florida have in terms of video boards. MSU and Ole Miss' are better than the first ones I listed though.

beauty is always within the eye of the beholder.

Both screens are terrific. However, the original poster is right--State's screen looks better. The sun does wash out Ole Miss' screen some, but that's not all of the difference. State's is clearer/sharper, as if the resolution was a good bit higher.

I do remember before ours was built Gene posted something like Ole Miss' screen was a "level 3" and State's was going to be a "level 4". I've done tons of research on buying HDTV's and those 'levels' never came up, but maybe whatever real specs are behind his descriptions explain the difference. I figure that Capturion wanted MSU's screen to be it's centerpiece and use ours to get more business, so the company built the best screen they possibly could in DWS.

I do wish State's had a screen on the back facing The Junction and entrance to campus. Before games, they could show highlights or other games, etc. to those in The Junction. The best part about a screen on the back is it could be used 365 days a year for ads, weather warnings, sports schedules, event notices, etc.

The "panels" comment is in reference to the facades as opposed to the video boards themselves.
