Why is Cohen starting Zack "Randy" Randolph over Gavin Collins?

Stats don't lie, although the two have the same batting average (Randy upped his sub .200 batting average last night - the little old lady in section 37 B could have reached base last night against Beede.) My point being, basically everyone hit safely at least once. Gavin Collins is seemingly the best catcher in every other statistical category (slugging pct. & on base %) and proved his arm is no joke by throwing out 3 would-be base stealers and picking off another runner against EIU.

Must be the result of practices. Agree Collins seems like the beater option.

Are they both calling their own games? Maybe Randolph is calling better pitches situationally.

Both Randy and Gavin

have called most if not all of their games this season. Zack's MO has always been defense first (that's what got him to ICC and State). With Preston's sink on his pitches there's a risk of a ball getting in the dirt and past the catcher; Zack is very sound at blocking and smothering those pitches. We were expecting a dogfight last night so I think CoCo wanted to make sure that Vandy earned their bases and runs instead of us giving them away.

Better glove, Randolph. Better arm, Collins. Better handling pitchers, Randolph.

Collins has more power and statistically both are about the same .ba wise. Randolph just has a little more experience and to his credit, he knocked the **** outta the ball last night but didn't have a lotta hits to show for it. He almost cranked one out and was robbed of extra bases on another ab but he had 3 RBI.

I could give a rip what someone's stance looks like. It's about production and

offensively speaking, none have been good but Zach hit the ball hard last night.

You mean you couldnt give a rip. If you could give a rip or could care less, you obviously COULD care less. It is could not.

Hit the ball hard? What game were you watching.

He struck out ugly, with a man at 3rd.
He hit a pop up to left field that the wind carried to the warning track.
He hit a 3mph screamer towards the bitcher that beede mishandled.
He hit ONE solid ball for a hit last night.

He looks awful at the plate.

Wtf are you talking about stance? What does that have to do with the price of tea in china?

Anyone who has seen both players play know collins is head and shoulders a better all around player

The only thing randolph does better than collins is block.

I think

he's referring to you're statement that he (Randolph) looks awful up there. I guess he assumed you were talking about his stance. I'm not sure what else could have been inferred by that.

After seeing the games this weekend:
-Randolph calls his own game and does it quickly. Collins is on a shorter leash with B.Thompson. Probably just due to a lack of experience.
-Randolph is better at blocking pitches in the turf. Collins is amazing at throwing out base runners. Each sucks pretty bad at the other.
-Collins is the better hitter by a wide stretch, but Randolph isn't absolutely worthless up there. Not an automatic out at least.

stance looks.........

You DO realize that when someone says "Randolph looks like **** at the plate", they aren't talking about the way he stands in the box, right? They're talking about his approach, his swing, and his general ability as a college hitter. Jesus H.

Randolph looks awful at the plate, and that has nothing to do with how he tucks his jersey in or holds his bat. He just isn't a SEC hitter...or a D1 hitter really. That being said, Collins lets way too many balls get past him defensively, so I'm starting to see Cohen's dilemma. Do you go with Collins' arm and offense? Or Randolph's calling of the pitches and better blocking? Based on his formula for success the last few years, Cohen will always go with the better defense....so let's hope Randolph can develop an arm and become a better hitter. Next year Collins will take over full time

I think

he (haildearoldstate) realizes that's exactly what he (wickedpissah) is talking about. I could be wrong.

Did we pull Collins in yesterday's game? I know he was catching when Lindgren entered, but I thought I heard Jim say Randolph in the 9th inning.

Whoever it was struggled. I think Vandy scored a run on a wild pitch, they stole a couple bases too. Plus we retired a runner at the plate, but I think that was Randolph.

Pretty bad when you have a amen your own post.

I was responding to cadaver's post from my iphone. Sixpack is all jacked up when it comes to loading and responding from iphones.

pretty bad? Most people agree with my thoughts.
