Why is the Sixpack so freaked out about recruiting?

One of the things about this board when it was founded in 2003, was the utter lack of interest in recruiting. We saved that for Rebel-fan and Genespagers to fight and ***** about. I stopped caring about recruiting when our "top 20" classes of 2002-3 never won more than 3 games a season the whole time they were here.

Yet, now I'm seeing posts that include terms "secret Rebels", "Undercover Rebels", plus everyone takes it personally what Chris Jones wants to do with his next 3 years in school....just like the Spirit and Genespage. Maybe it's because our basketball team resembles those Bob Boyd-early Richard Williams teams of the 1980's, maybe it's because our team quit like little girls against teams that gave them a fight. Personally, if every decent commit we have signs with the university of ole miss, I put it on Mullen rather than the Rebels. If Dan Mullen can't keep a lifelong State fan, only a few miles from campus, then he needs to turn in his whistle.

C'mon, Sixpack, STEP UP YOUR GAME! The Mississippi State University has a Top 5 baseball team ready to contend for a National Championship. Let's see more Todd4State baseball breakdowns and less "oh no! my ****** hurts because we might have a player decommit!"

Good post. But it's recruiting season and that has become a sport in itself for many on message boards. Who 'wins' the recruiting war. And it is important because it you don't recruit well, you won't enjoy the true sport of choice. So as they say.....it is what it is.

What I've found is that the difference between #1 and #10 in subjective....

...then the next level is from #11-#40. Any fan base bragging that they're #13 while their rival is #15 is silly. Also, the university of ole miss has had "top ten" recruiting classes for decades. I remember when they won the "Recruiting National Championship" of 1979- after four years, they won a collective 15 games, with one win against a ranked opponent- the 1981 Dick Pace Screwjob. In the meantime, USM's class was totally unheralded, and they wound up with a 6-1 record against The Mississippi State University and the university of ole miss.

The only reason that the university of ole miss is always a "recruiting national championship contender" is subscriptions- they buy the most subscriptions to rivals, Scout, 24/7, whatever. They care more about recruiting stars than actual player performance.*

*-That said, if they pull CJ, Kimdeechee, and a couple of others, it'll be a pretty decent class...almost Top 10.

I think the averages suggest we have us a top 15 team. [/clarification].

Quick! Name our best true freshman last years signing class. How much did he contribute last year?

We have depth for the first time in the ETERNITY... What 1 kid does doesn't hurt our class or our future?

Remind yourself of
Pat Patterson
Vincent Sanders
Jeremy Liggins
Jermaine Whitehead
Cam Newton
Barry Brunetti
nance Nash

even missing those guys we continue to have or had, some of the best seasons in MSU History.
give it time, the times they are a changing.

If fans were able to restrict their vision to a high level, I don't think that there would be a problem. This is going to be a solid class no matter what happens between now and signing day and like you said, our star studded classes from the past have done more harm than good at times.

The thing that gets people riled up, though, is when we seem to constantly have the Chiziks of the world and those jackasses in Oxford swoop in at the 11th hour and steal the stars of our class that have been committed for months. Newton may be the exception, but in the grand scheme of things... does losing CJ, Moore, or possibly Jones cripple us? No... but it's happening, it has nothing to do with them being enamored by the legendary square, and it's utter BS. People are sick of it, and that's what has created the frenzy. It's not about whether we have the #12 class or the #16 one.

The reason people are freaking out so much on this Vs not pumping up the baseball team is simple. It's football which is America's favorite sport. And it's (depends on how you look at it) the beginning of the next season or the end of the current one and the last bit of it we'll hear from in a while. Kind of like that mean ole hussy of a girlfriend you had and she was going on a trip and would be gone for a while. The night or the week before she leaves you to are gonna be some real rabbits.
