There was an article a month or two ago comparing UGA and BYU in football over the last 8 or so years.
They have virtually the exact same overall record. Like within 1 win and 1 loss pretty much, and i dont remember which had the better %, it was almost the exact same.
Anyways, they then compared bowl money in the same timeframe and BYU got 900K/game and UGA averaged like 4million or something that was staggaringly higher. Added up, BYU had something like 8million and UGA had something like 35 or so million...mighta been higher.
Just tried to find the article and couldnt in the first check, would be nice with all the correct numbers, but the lesson is the same- they were getting dick for money. Why not go independent? Its not like they will get a lower payout than they arlready were getting.
Plus they have that network.
I do love the move for basketball. The WCC will be even better with BYU added in. It will be funny to see a conference of small Christian schools compared to a massive quasiChristian school when it comes to arena sizes. Pretty sure BYU's arena holds 4 average sized WCC arenas...maybe 5. But the basketball overall will be even better than it already is.</p>
