I am convinced that no official who works a game goes out there with the intention of helping one team or hurting another. Sometimes calls go heavy to one side...it happens. I saw a basketball game many years ago where the officials nearly got run out of the gym because they called about 30 fouls on one team and about 10 on the other. No one took into consideration that one team was playing aggressive full court man to man defense, and the other was packed back in a 2-1-2 zone. All they wanted to yell about was the foul differential. Football can be the same way at times.

In the 3rd, 4th, and championship rounds, NC sends officials in to work games from a 'neutral' officials association (one that does not work either team during the regular season). They are usually from quite a distance away, and normally have never seen either team.

My two cents worth....and I've said this before on other forums---Here are some points to ponder:
NORTH CAROLINA NEEDS OFFICIALS!! -- Not just in football, but in every sport. They are a dying breed, and unless some people take up the banner and start officiating, the sport could die eventually from lack of officials In some of the large metro areas (NYC, Chicago) school systems are having to stagger their games over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights because there are not enough officials to go around. In some parts of NC, it's not far from being that way now. Most officials who start quit within a few years because they get tired of the constant criticismThose who are saying how bad the officials are in NC, you are ABSOLUTELY entitled to your opinion. I'm not saying it's invalid. What I am saying is BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.....if you can do better, sign up for the training clinics between now and next June and get out there! If you can help improve the situation, NORTH CAROLINA'S HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS AND COACHES NEED YOU!!!
That is one of the most spot on post's I have read in a long time. Kudo's.

"Fans, we live in a world that has football, and those games have to be officiated by men with flags. Who's gonna do it? One of you? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for bad calls, and you curse the officials. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That mistakes, while unfortunate, are part of the game. And an official's existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, is still required to play the game. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about on this forum, you want me on that game. You need me on that game! We use words like honor, integrity, love for the game. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent honoring our avocation. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who yells and screams at me about a rule he doesn't understand, under the blanket of the very opportunity to play the game that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a flag and take up a position. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think of how I do my job."

Good luck to the 32 teams still playing the game we all love.

And the sleeper play became illegal when you had to report into the game and at least go inside the hashes.

Wasn't Col. Nathan R. Jessup led away at the end of it all for doing things his own way instead of the way the rules stated. I am pretty sure he was.

Im not here to debate how officals are for one team or the other but I would like a lesson on spotting the football!

One time you hear the wistle on first contact and the play is dead and it is spotted at first contact other times the wistled is blown 5 sencods after first contact while the ball carrier is being pushed back the ball is spotted back at first contact!

Then you get the 5 players are trying to bring down the runner and as soon at the wistle is blown the run stops fighting and the 5 players fall on the runner and a flag is thrown on the D!

Im sure most officals are good at there job and most of the time they do there job but I have an issue with officals that have to get together and decide what they are going to call on every single flag that is thrown and look like they dont know the rules, last night at the Crest game on the opening kick off there was a flag they mark of 15 yards and our coach had to complain because it was only a 10 year flag and other wise they was going to just move along!

We dont always have to have the best officals but atleast send officals that know the rules or can atleast appear to know the rules!

Yeah, I saw that as well. Its amazing how bad the officiating can be at this stage of the season. I honestly thought Asheville beat Weddington up and down the field, especially the first half. They ran the ball right at them most of the time with good yardage but it is what it is at this point. Some teams just get all the breaks and Weddington might just be one of them. I thought Asheville was more physical but just too one dimensional. Only passed when down and that is not good enough to win a state title.
