and you tell me why our band does not do stuff like that. I have been waiting for our band to break out something cool. I mean doing things like the Ohio St. band with dotting the I. LSU's band has a great pregame routine, but our band just doesn't do anything special. Spelling out STATE is kindof cool but not "chill bump" cool.

I still remember when our band spelled out CROOM at the Liberty Bowl. The douche meter was off the charts that day. Since then I have lost all respect for the creative energy of our band program.

That band sounds like comlete ****. And I'm paying them a compliment when I say that they sound like ****.

You REALLY want MSU's band to sound like that?

The Sonic Boom Of The South seemed to think otherwise after we played our whitey woodwind-heavy version of Thriller.

Some people played music that was mostly in tune and on time while sitting, then they awkwardly stood and quasi raised their instruments in the air, then they played more of the song mostly in tune and on time while standing.

Being awesome, i almost always recognize fellow awesomeness. Didnt see anything here...

Corps style musician so he likes a traditional sound. The "Sonic Boom" style leans heavily on volume over quality. I prefer a DCI style like Jacksonville St. a few years ago.

i completely agree with you, Todd. as a graduate of the music department at MSU, i would want my damn tuition money back if they sounded that bad. playing 'up to date' music and playing/sounding like complete **** are two entirely different things.....that band manged to put both together in one sitting. those dam piccolos/flutes on the front, along with the saxes, were playing the most god-awful sounding crap i have heard since beginner band in 6th grade.

yeah, BMT, i am with ya on that. a DCI style marching band would really appeal to more people than most would think. UNBELIEVABLE volume, while not sacrificing the quality of playing nor the type music.

I marched the green team and aged out with a ring... But hell, that show is nearly 20 years old!

I always think it's funny when people with absolutely zero knowledge of the activity think a video like the fl a&m one, which is one of the worst musical exhibits I've seen in a long time, is "awesome". That Drumline movie was ridiculous.

I'm saying that that band sounds like ****.

And JSU sounds like **** to. But hey, they sure do dance good!

Doesn't make much sense to me that people that ***** about what our band sounds like and then provide examples of a band that sounds worse than what we've got.

Loud doesn't equal good. And loud sure doesn't equal in tune.

If they had brought a clip of LSU or Florida State, I probably would have agreed with them.

If Jackson State was in tune, they would be a sight to behold.

I like a lot of types of music. I think it's just that those bands focus on dancing so much that they sacrifice musical quality.

was Phantom Regiment's Spartacus show.

And as to the person talking about our fans liking DCI bands- I think most of our fans like Jacksonville State the most. And they actually got a standing ovation when they last played at Scott Field.

Needless to say, Jackson State did not.

I Go To Rio, Would You Be My Girl, etc. should be banned.

DCI isn't practical for college. Yeah, J'ville State does it. But how many J'ville States are there?

Best college bands I have seen, BTW, are J'ville State and aTm.

come up with a more unique, exciting pre-game routine. Think LSU, that stuff gives you chills. Maybe it's ending it with Madelon, butas it stands itis pretty ho-hum for an SEC school. Incorporate the jumbotron.Even Ole Miss has a much better pre-game.I totally understand that what they spend the most time on is the half-time shows, but you can do the same pre-game the entire season, only have to learn it once.

In my opinion, though, college marching bands should be first and foremost about entertainment for the crowd.

You can't watch this video and not be entertained, in my opinion. Especially at 5:40.

but these guys seems like they would be the Yngwie Malmsteen of marching bands. It's obvious they are incredibly good at what they do, but I'm too impatient to watch it. It's like it's over my head and I can't appreciate it for what it really is having never been in a marching band...

Just give me one too many brass instruments, a solid drum line, an overly spirited field commander, and a girl or two that knows how to shake her ***, and I'll call it a day...

1992 was an awesome year for DCI. The Blue Devils show that year was ridiculous as well, but basically corps after corps lit it up during that competition.

I think we should fire our director and hire Jacksonville State's director and call it a day.

http://www.youtube.com/wa...n6Wk&feature=related

Our fan base would love this. Its DCI style for sure, it has some flash, its different than the rest of the SEC.

If not Jax State, we need to go Texas A&M or Ohio State - military style.

not the quality of the band. In their defense, Allen Iverson style, this is just practice and not at a game.

They are simply displaying that they have a piece put together based on the internet phenomenon, and can play it to "some" proficiency. I would wager that they never put this on the field, and if they do that it sounds much better by the time it gets there.

Has our band ever played anything that was less than 10 years old or put together their own composition based on something random?

Here is the internet phenom's itunes version.? The Gregory Brothers (who created the song and video) have stated that the song was so popular that it was the #3 download on itunes at it's peak, behind Usher....and Usher, but also ahead of Usher, and Usher.

before and after the 2007 Egg Bowl. The plan was to play it every time we stopped them on 3rd down, but since the Rebs kicked our *** for 3.5 quarters that day, the plan was nixed.

still, it would be nice to see something like that done more often. let's face it: the only reason that was even played was because it was Ole Miss.
