Why was Julie Hermann fired the same day as Flood?

If Flood was fired because of the lousy performance of the team, why was Hermann also fired the same day? She isn't responsible for the football team losing, Flood is. If it was because of the scandals, why did we wait?

It wasn't because of the scandals. Barchi said nothing more will come out regarding the investigation..

He wanted a new direction in the Athletic Department. A clean slate.

On the conference call last night, he said the investigation is over and nothing more will come out of it.

If anyone thinks the ONLY reason Flood was fired was due to on-field performance, this year, I've got some beachfront property in Montana to sell you.

mike--I don't know where you got that from--most of us are waiting for the other shoe to drop-unfortunately as it may mean ncaa violations--and that's why Julie was let go

Ha. I don't think anyone believes that. Barchi even said as much in the statement.

“We did a very thorough and deep internal investigation using outside resources that were as impartial as you know,” Barchi said. “We released everything related to that investigation to the public. It is as transparent as I think you will find anywhere. And there is no additional factual investigation that we are undertaking related to this.”

Bobby says as much in premium. No additional facts will come out of the investigation.

Because Barchi is AWESOME! And got the job done in one announcement.

I would think that Barchi would instruct Julie to fire Flood, and then Barchi fire Julie. Can you imagine that Barchi wanted both of them in his office and like Trump said "You're both fired!"

Because no college football coach in America wants to work for Hermann. Why let her make such an important new hire when no one has confidence she can attract talent.

Hermann screwed us in 2013 when she went out and tried to get Dan Mullen (lmao) behind Flood's back. Anyone that would think they could get Mullen is completely dilusional. She really hurt Flood's credibility and Towers bailed her out by paying for Flood's extension and restoring his credibility. She deserved to be fired after that bungle.

Hermann failed in her task. She was to clean this up with donor money. She didn't raise the money, and the school had no choice but to make a move. Barchi and the powers that be didn't trust her to hire a new head football coach, and wanted to go in a different direction given her nonperformance.

The question asked that he answered that was specifically about "the most recent investigation". He said nothing will come out of that.

If Barchi's statement about the investigation is true (and it better be), then the possible reasons he fired Hermann are pretty limited. I can think of only three:

1. Big donors said they wouldn't give if she was still in place;

2. He actually wanted her to fire Flood when Flood was suspended, and that made him think that she wasn't the one to clean house the way he wanted;

3. He didn't trust her to hire a football coach.

We've heard suggestions that reason 1 was in play (and in part because there were still donors mad about Pernetti being fired, which makes them jerks). Someone posted a timeline that suggests that Barchi told her to find the money to pay off Flood and pay his replacement, and fired her because she couldn't get that done, which also would be consistent with reason 1. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason.

I haven't seen any evidence for reason 2 or reason 3, but I don't know that we would. And if it's item 3, as I've said elsewhere, he shouldn't have picked her in the first place, since that likely was going to be part of her job sooner or later. (And remember that, apparently, he kept her from firing Flood at one point.)

And yet - had Miss St lost the Egg Bowl, Mullen would almost surely have been fired and likely would have ended up here (or was he picking the other open job at the time - Wake Forest). It was a bold move that didnt work out, but thats what happens when you make bold moves - they dont always work. The other options were - keep Flood (which I'm guessing you didnt want to do) or um - well keep Flood.

...and let's not forget the FACT that donors initially went to Julie, to make the move with their $$$, but it wasn't nearly enough so then, and only then, did she go after more donor $$$ to lure Mullen here.

I could be wrong, but in my opinion there was never a "drug testing" investigation. It was a top-to-bottom investigation of the program (which included the email scandal). The results of the email scandal were released..no further findings will be released. (which to me seems like nothing of importance came out besides the email stuff).

Because it had to be done, period.

Unless you had your head in the sand or was too busy standing in line at the bank you would known that this was going to happen.

This season was an absolute disaster. Forget the final record which is bad enough, everything else that happened was a virtual **** storm that kept RU in the media. Unlike the quote, "There is nothing that is bad publicity", there is certainly bad press. When you are sitting at the desk that is supposed to make sure these things don't happen and fail, you get fired. I was surprised that she didn't get the axe earlier.

It's almost as if you WANT bad info to come out.
If there is bad info, it will eventually get out somehow. All those insiders who kept talking about the "horrible things" going on in the program and how evil Flood really was can't be wrong, can they?

There were also "insiders" saying Flood is staying, or Hermann is staying, or Carroo will never play football again.

No one in the main stream media is painting a dire picture.

For 2 years you have constantly laid the entire fiasco on Julie, omitting facts or simply posting only parts of the scenario, as such, to fit your opinion of what went down in 2013. I simply posted a general, but factual, timeline of events as I - and most others - have been since then.

Uhm, because you're completely eliminating the first part of the equation, to put the entire blame on JH for a situation that she DID NOT create.

The order of events is irrelevant. Our own AD went behind the head coach's back while he was employed and tried to secure monies to go after Mullen. It doesn't matter who's idea it was to begin with. Julie was the one in charge.

If you're going to try to do something like that you better pull it off. She failed spectacularly.

No, it is not, it's actually quite "relevant."

It's been stated in the press that GS (and presumably many other top targets) wouldn't work for JH. If that's true I'm sure it was a factor
