he didn't even answer the question.. just said our athletic program is a joke.. what does Wilbon have against MSU?

Very odd. Yeah the basketball team is a joke, it is a dumpster fire, to steal a comment from Gottlieb.

Wilbon is just off base. He needs to retract and apologize.
As far as our basketball program, we are in a rough spot now. I don't think "joke" is the right word, however. We have played horrible this season and had other issues, but either you were sleeping or have forgotten the exciting basketball that we have enjoyed over the past 15 years. I personally can't think of any team other than some of the upper-echelon programs like Duke and Kentucky, that I'd want to trade with. Of course, I am a Mississippi State Bulldog, and that's that, I'm afraid.

There are a few teams out there. My point is that MSU basketball has been a huge source of excitement in the Stansbury era. I do think that he is on a downward slope, and I don't doubt that we may do better with a fresh start. But athletic teams are not machines. the comment showing how much better our football team is now than our basketball team could easily have been made in reverse during JWS's last three seasons. I don't know that Stans can get it back together. It looks bad now. But our programs are definitely no joke, although they may appear as such at times. Michigan's football program is not a joke, but we surely made a temporary laughing stock of them this past Saturday.
Likewise, the basketball program with one of the best conference records over the past 13 seasons is something other than a joke. And if you think we're mediocre now, wait until we're like Auburn or Ole Miss and live forever in the middle of the SEC West.
