Will any of you root for the New Orleans Pelicans??

I can't believe they're going with that. Brass would have been much better
The F'ing Pelicans? Awful. Because when I think of New Orleans, I think of Pelicans.

I like the pelican as a mascot on the court or on logos similar to how Tulane does. But, it just doesn't roll off the tongue well when you have to call your team the pelicans.

Agree that it's a terrible name, but the pelican is the state bird and it's all over the place down there. Hate that name, but the Brass isn't much better and the Hornets belong in Charlotte. What New Orleans really needs to do is get the Jazz name back from Utah. Seriously? The Utah Jazz? That may be the worst name of any franchise in the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL.
yea but as someone on ESPN said, I was looking forward to hearing the play by play guys saying on a deflection out of bounds...."Its the Brass ball"....
Not me. I'm no more a part of New Orleans than I am Chicago. If I'm going strictly off location, it makes more sense for me to root for Memphis anyway.

Hell yeah I'm going to root for the Pelicans. To be honest, it's only weird because its new. Portland Trailblazers? It'll become natural as the name gets older.

The Reds were the Red Stockings until the 1890's. They were the Redlegs for some time in the 50's. For other goofy nicknames the Dodgers were named for the slang term for people from Brooklyn's ability to not get hit by streetcars, "trolley-dodgers."
