I talked to a guy this past weekend that is working on the stadium expansion. He's saying they are behind schedule and he doubts that it will be ready for the season.

Anyone hearing different?

Here's my guess at how it'll go down.

1) They'll barely complete the bare essentials to safely allow fans in by the USM game
2) They'll be working on 'putting the finishing touches' for the majority of the 2014 season

From what I understand, there are all types of monetary clauses where the builder loses out big time if it's not done. Barring an act of god, it will be done to avoid monetary late penalties. I was told if it gets to the point of being critical, they will work around the clock.

i would guess they're on schedule.. **** they aren't even working weekends right now, at least not on the exterior. from looking at the webcam, the exterior is almost finished, with the exception of final touches (bleacher, railing, maybe a 1/3 of the brick work and the video board.

Go to church with a guy that works for company. Said Roy Anderson sent 40 employees up there to help.

I'd say that's a good guess. It'll be "complete" for the USM game and they'll spend the next few weeks finishing up the punchlist.

A&M is spending $450M. That's almost twice as much as Baylor is paying for a state of the art brand new stadium. And I suspect they'll be cutting it close but make the deadline just like we will.

Simple answer: yes. The monetary penalties for projects like this are large enough the contractor won't let a deadline be missed.

They look to be using a ton of steel and not as much concrete as a traditional stadium. Looks cheap to me. I have to assume that the bulk of the infrastructure will be hidden when its all said and done.

Anyone know the advantages or disadvantages with the aTm's steel design?

I keep seeing folks say stuff like "they'll have the necessities finished, but will be doing final touches throughout the season." if i bought into the gridiron, state level, or scoreboard club... 17 that. i just paid a ****-ton of money, that **** better be finished on day 1. if it isn't, i'm asking for a pro-rated season pass to those areas.

so my point is... i bet you anything the athletic department and University is all over their asses to get it 99% done for USM game because they know they would have to put up with some bitching and potentially a different type of monetary penalty.

Both. deadline arent always met and GCs arent ALWAYS held to LD's, even if they are in the contract.

Im sure for this they will be. They have a LONG way to go but like you, I assume it gets done. You can never predict weather, accidents, etc though.

On this project, there is a penatly. And bad publicity.

In talking to people at RA, here are the two answers i got as to whether they will make it:
1. It will be done
2. No way they let it miss deadline.

I know you can't predict the weather/accidents, but I also know they are taking steps to make sure it's finished.

^^^ this ^^^ ..... called liquidated damages and they can vary from $500 to $10,000 per day although the highest I have ever contracted for was $250,000 / day for every day past scheduled substantial completion ... unless MSU has a lot of pull with the local inspection jurisdiction it wont be occupied without a "certificate of occupancy" , which can be issued before being substantially complete and is often the case in these situations ... this project doesn't have a lot of the finish trades that usually compile a lengthy punch list so I would expect it to be open if not completely finished ... if the GC or owner was concerned you would see weekend work by now

I can

assure you that the penalties will be substantial enough to warrant the contractor(s) finishing on time, here.

^^^ This. Contractors will work around the clock before they miss a due date. If you aren't seeing guys working weekends, then the contractors aren't worried.

Ok...but if they were doing a $75M upgrade, it would also progress faster than ours. More competition among contractors I suspect.
