will Facebook be relevant in 5 years?

Considering the in-laws live out of state and can't make it back to watch things our child is involved in, FB gives us an outlet to keep them in the loop. Plus, my wife lived out west before moving back to the Heartland, and has a ton of friends/colleagues that are interested in what's going on. Myself, as a sports nut with friends that share the same interest, it's the perfect avenue to follow what's going on with everyone.

Our other option is to send out a mass text or email, that doesn't flip our trigger though.

Do I like FB? Not necessarily, there's too much that doesn't interest me. But I appreciate the platform it allows for us to remain connected to people. All over the world!

Not sure it is relevant now.

Oh, it's very relevant. I consider it to be a time waster. I have plenty of time wasters, this board being one of them. Like others have said, it can be a very useful tool. Being able to post updates on the family, or organization, in one place is a very effective means of communication. Now, I don't use it. In fact, I resent the hard push to use it all over the net. I created a fake account just so I could post my opinions on some websites without giving out my real name. I will give out my real name. It will be when I choose to do so, not when some corporate website says I should.

Well Zuckerberg did once compare the significance of Facebook to the printing press, so we can assume at least one guy thinks it will be relevant -- for perhaps the next thousand years.

Seems to me (a simpleton) Facebook has turned into a dumpster fire of political name calling & trashing everyone who doesn't believe what we do. (Which by the way nobody on earth believes everything we ourselves believe)

Maybe in 5 years it will be the "can't believe we used that" thing.
Is this Facebook thing you speak of going to replace My Space?

Funny no mention of AOL here? " You've got mail " ? Says something I think; funnier yet, some may not get the relevance ( age ).

Like others have said, I think some of you just need better friends haha. Facebook is still going strong with me and my friends (college-mid 20s ages). Maybe not as much as before since there are more options, but people definitely still use it and my feed isn't even close to being littered with stuff you guys are talking about.
