To win in the Big East is exceptionally tough, and to them, the regular season is huge. It takes so much emotional and physical energy to play their conference schedule and tournament starting in December, it is that much harder to compete hard in the NCAAT. West Virginia is the only Big East team who has even had moderate success in the NCAAs the past few years. Pitt, Louisville, and Syracuse have already lost. Marquette beat Syracuse and Notre Dame is going to get a run for their money against FSU (I think). If they lose, Marquette and UConn will be the only 2 left out of a very deep conference.
If Notre Dame loses, only two Big East teamsout of 11 that made the tourneywill have made the Sweet 16. That is the same number as the Mountain West, which only had3 teams selected. But I'm sure Vitale and the boys will have a good explanation for the meltdown.

when they seeded the Big East teams. If things like RPI guestimations are accurate, then it looks like the teams were overseeded (or is it underseeded?) It still doesn't explain things like Notre Dame getting obliterated right now. It is amusing that the only two teams from the Big East that are left got to the Sweet 16 by beating...other Big East teams.
If your conferenceputs 11 teams in the NCAA Tournament, has a ton of ranked teams,says you are finally going to break through and win the tournament, then lays an egg and only get 2 teams in the Sweet 16, you got exposed as being a conference that is overrated and underachieved. The only 2 teams from their conference getting in the Sweet 16 played another Big East team in the Round of 32, so a team was going to get in by default.
Now I will say part of this is the media's fault. They do this every year to the Big East, and every year they get the same outcome. The media needs to quit pumping up the Big East because they never perform on the big stage. The Big East always says they have the toughest conference, then getbeatby teams like FSU, Butler, Gonzaga, George Mason, VCU, and Morehead St in the 1st 2 rounds of the biggest stage in the game. I know some of these mid majors are good, but Big East coaches say the whole year that Big East play is so tough that it prepares them for the biggest stage. The hell it does. They proved that again this year. The media needs to quit that and look objectively on college basketball because the Big East continues to underperform.

Year in and year out they get exposed in the postseason but the "experts" go on to fellate the teams and the conference at the beginning of the season for playing in a deep conference. Heck, if the SEC had 16 teams we'd be considered deep too.<div>
